Strange Contract Extensions
I just traded for a stud CF and noticed that the computer AI had previously signed him to a three year contract extension with the salaries:
1st Season: $2,675,153 2nd Season: $9,820,000 3rd Season: $350,000 That's a really silly contract. If I tried to sign one of my players to a contract like that, the owner would not approve it, nor approve anything a quarter as bad. If the game recognizes it as a bad contract in one instance (when I am trying to make an offer), it should recognize it in another (when the AI tries to make an offer). |

Of note, I am using the latest version (1.03).
If it helps, the player had four years of major league service, and thus two more arbitration years ahead of him. His existing one-year contract is for $2,675,153. I am using default financials. |

You know, I have tried to offer more reasonable contracts and I have gotten the message that the contract needed the money to be spread more evenly throughout the years. I find this odd, also.

You guys may just have different type of owners. IMO this feature is working the way it should.

Regardless, I've played five or six games and have never been able to structure wildly unbalanced contracts, or even moderately unbalanced ones. You really think that a contract like that was intended? One where a player earns nearly ten million dollars one year and the league minimum the next? |

I apologize that it has taken a while for you to get a response. I have not seen a contract extension that was this unbalanced before. Was this in a roster set or a game created league? Also, do you still have the file that contains this extension. Please let me know. Thanks.

This was a game created fictional league. I do, in fact, still have the file.
Should I send it someplace? If so, exactly which files would you need? |

I don't think owner personalities has anything to do with this. No matter what, it always says you can't have an imbalance like this not matter what type of owner you have. It's written in the game like that. My guess is that there was a problem with the universe creation. How many seasons are you into your career?

This occurred during the first season of play. The player in question is CF Douglas Thomas, on the Norwich Terror. I've got all of the files zipped up, but ftp://217.158.3.6/ doesn't seem to be working. Can anyone else access it?

Okay. Filezilla did the trick. It's up there as Nutlaw.zip.

Nutlaw,
What is the name of the player with the goofy contract extension? Thanks.

Any ideas of what could have happened there? I don't see anything else out of place.

It is truly strange that the game seemed to have screwed up the value of the extension. I am going to log this as a bug and keep the league file for Markus to take a look at. For your own purposes, you can wait until the next year in your league when the new contract takes effect. Then you can turn on Commish mode and evenly distribute the contract amounts if you would like. I will post back here with a Test Track Number for your reference.
