Editing Leagues
In my fictional Federal League, I am trying to get eight of the twenty clubs into the playoffs each season. I set up my league as two subleagues of three divisions and a wild card each. In a different thread I was told I could achieve the same effect with one subleague of four divisions and four wild card teams. I would prefer the latter, since it decreases the chances of bad teams winning weak divisions and skating in the back door.
My problem is that I can't change my league setup. If I have to wait until the preseason rolls around, that means I'm stuck with my current organization through the end of the first season, because there's no preseason before the first season, right? Is there any way to save the rosters and import/export the teams to a newly created 'Federal II League' that's organized the way I want it? I'm guessing this would be very complex, since I have seven levels of affiliated minors that would need to be 'ported across as well. {If anyone's wondering why I don't just start over, there's a combination of the forty+ hours it took to set up in the first place and the fact that I'm looking forward to playing my team in this league. I have three Cy Young caliber starters and no hitting. To a Mets fan, that feels like home.} |

Yeah, you can't go from two subleagues to one I don't think. You can add or remove divisions, but not leagues. There's probably a way to export rosters and copy and paste them into your new game, but there are some minor quirks you'll have to deal with. For example, not everything will reimport, so you might have players with different secondary characteristics when they take the place of your other players. Also, I think you have to be careful that there aren't any player IDs above the highest number in your new league or these guys won't show up anywhere. I seem to remember a post about doing this somewhere, but I can't remember by who.

It may not be that important, since in theory I could just delete one division from each subleague, but it would be much more convenient for the purposes of comparing players to have them all in one subleague. Is it the general consensus that no matter what I want, I'm stuck with my current organization through the first season? I'm still in January here at the moment, and I'd like to know if I've run out of options before I move ahead. 1998 Yankees, I read through your post and can't figure out if it means I can or cannot do an export/import. How do historical gamers do it? One of their options to assign players from X roster set to their historical teams. How would I go about making a league with all the same teams (and same minor league clubs and affiliations) and having the players from this roster set end up on the same teams in another universe? By the way, sporr, who is your avatar? To me it looks suspiciously like John Franco. |

Reggie had some cosmetic work done to help hide his identity after the whole "I must kill the Queen" incident.

Okay, this is the deal: I edited my Federal League to get all twenty teams into one subleague in four divisions. The other subleague is now empty and unnamed. The idea of this was to get eight of twenty teams into the playoffs, four division winners and four wild cards. The problem is, it didn't work.
I had eight teams in the playoffs — six division winners and two wild cards. I now have two teams — my choice, either two division winners or one division winner and one wild card. No word on what my other division winners will be doing come October. Any ideas on how I can re-expand the playoffs from one round back to three? |
