game crashes during Proceed To Next Season

I'm running a historical league - started in 1950 and just finished the '61 World Series. After selecting 'Proceed to Next Season' the game crashes during 'Generating League Reports.' (The actual message is the dreaded "OOTP65.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.")

I'm not using Catobase or any other third party utilities or external browsers, but I do use ArodGarlon for rookie imports. I do not have amateur drafts - my rookies import to their actual teams...

I'm using XP. I verified that I have enough disk space, tried a file cleanup and reboot, then again tried 'Proceeding to Next Season' without any other programs running.

Just before the initial try at "Proceed..." I backed up (this was a backup made immediately after the completion of my World Series). So I tried restoring from that backup, but it still crashed.

I do have backups from just before the start of the World Series, and a couple from during the '61 season. I could try restoring from one of those, but I'd hate to lose (and have to re-do) my World Series.

Does anybody have any suggestions that I can try before I resort to restoring from earlier backups? (And even those have no guarantee of success.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to check and see how many "ammy draft rounds" are listed in the league setup.

OK, even though I do not have and have never had an ammy draft - nor have I ever changed these settings - I will check this when I get home. Regardless of what I find the number is, what SHOULD it be? Thanks.

Not sure what the default is but it should not be in the "thousands" which some have had happen on rare ocassions.

Even though I don't actualy have ammy drafts, I changed the default from 10 to 0 and tried again. And again, after selecting 'Proceed to Next Season,' it crashed during '"Generating League Reports.' I'm thinking that ammy drafts has nothing to do with it given the point where the game is crashing...

Anyway, I then tried restoring from a previous backup, the one I made just prior to beginning my '61 World Series. After quickly simming the series, I tried to 'Proceed...' again, and it again crashed in the same place.

So I guess I'm gonna try restoring from a backup made at mid-season. Hopefully that will work. But if anybody has any ideas... Thanks

It isn't "rare" and this happens to my league every season. No matter what I change it to, it always gets reset at some point to some insane number.

I don't think my issue had anything to do with the ammy draft. My guess is that a league file somehow got corrupted... At any rate, as I indicated above, restoring to my backup that was made just prior to the WS didn't work. However, restoring to an earlier backup (from 8/1/61 sim date) DID work. I have successfully proceeded to the next season and am about to kick off spring training. So far, so good...

Ok, the very same thing that I described in the first post above happened again after the '62 World Series. I am unable to proceed to the next season without the game crashing. It freezes and crashes during 'Generating League Reports' (this is very unlikely to be an ammy draft issue). So far I've been unable to get it to work after restoring from backups I made just prior to and after the Series. I 'could' go back to some mid-season backups, as I did when this happened last time, but what would be the point? If I have to keep re-doing parts of my seasons and World Series' over and over until it happens to work it kinda takes the fun out of it.

Obviously, I've put a lot of time & effort into my historical league and don't want to just scrap it. And even if I did, why start over if I might run into the same thing? Unless some simmer out there happens to know what's wrong and how to fix it, this needs to be escalated to OOTP tech support. Steve K, can you please advise? Thanks in advance.

I tried re-installing the game and restoring the league from a backup, but that didn't work... Anybody out there? Anybody at OOTP?

OK, I re-installed the game in a different location on my computer and I figured I'd try a simple, new, historical league. And the same dang thing happened when I tried to proceed to the next season. I had thought it was the original problem was with my league, but now it appears to be something else. I have tried emailing through tech support, emailing Steve K. directly through this forum, and of course, these posts. But I'm not getting any response. Does ANYBODY have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm kinda mystified why Steve K is replying to other issues but I'm getting no response. What's up with that?

Installing the game on another pc and restoring the league from a backup worked. So this tells me that there's something going on with my original pc that causes the problem. I'd prefer to play the game on the original pc... So, given that the freeze occurs in the same spot (Generating League Reports) every time, and given that I've already tried re-installing, file cleanup, defrag, verified disk space, eliminating various start-up programs, does anybody have any other ideas of tweaks or whatever I can try? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Memory issue perhaps....

Could you have a fault in a RAM chip that is causing the instructions from the program loaded to crash? Just wondering - had this happen to me once and I replaced the SDDRAM chip and all was fine after this. This did not happen with OOTP but another program, but it was crashing at the same place in the program so I think it may be a similar issue.
