Has a real life boxer ever given his opinion on the game?

I mean as far as being realistic goes? I have George Foreman's E-mail address and he is the only one who reads his E-mail has anyone ever asked a fighter what he thought about the game so he or she could make a suggestion?

Former Cruiserweight Mike Rodgers is a board member. Austin had a brief career in the seventies.

I'll bet most would not agree with their rating.

I find the game to be very realistic with many of my acquaintances appearing in the game. Most bouts have an ebb and flow which mirrors the real world of boxing. The ratings appear to be a bit odd; as a result I rate the fighters in my universe manually.

Austin

P.S. Conn Chris mentioned my brief career, was this in reference to my chin?

Well, you did loose that title that you had in my universe Austin but I have only the highest respect for you.

I fighter who used to bounce at a club near my home by the name of Ralph West has played the game before and loves it. I played in a few rec leagues(basketball)with him a few years ago and mentioned the game to him. He isnt rated...but rated himself. I was suprised that he had himself rated a 2..pretty honest guy..lol. He has a helluva punch..no defense and virtually every fight he has been involved in has been short, violent and action packed. He is a cocky guy...but he's alright. He used to bounce at a club in Pikeville KY..I think he lives in Missouri now..not for sure. He told me a couple of his friends in the game played TBCB..didnt give me names. I bet most fighters would like the game.

Hugh:

I bet we would all be surprised at how honest some of these folks are in assessing their own talents like your friend seems to be. My first contact with Mike Rodgers was when he emailed me. I had done a rating of him at HW which he had downloaded. Embarrassingly, I had rated him as a free-swinging, no-defense high 1. He actually agreed and was even more critical of his skills than I was. His only complaint was that he should have been rated as a cruiser (which was correct). He and I exchanged a few emails and worked out a cruiser rating. Great fun, but also interesting to see how dispassionate and honest he could be about his own skills. He's a great gut and hope he drops in again sometime although he is pretty busy trying to get his music career moving. (Great country western singer too - some guys get all the talent )

lethal: If he only rated himself as a 2, sounds like he wasn't too cocky.

Boxers in the game

I haven't posted here for a while, but I do check in a couple of times a week. My last machine died on me so I lost all of my data (and the game istelf, so I can't even play now ( ).

I am looking forward to the new modules/updates etc.

Within the theme (sort of) of this topic can I just say that Julia Burley loves the fact that her late husband is in the game. I spoke to her the other day and she asked me about it as her granson's friend had a copy and was running a career with Charley (who was kicking ass!!).

She thinks it is cool that he is so highly regarded and that someone bothered to put him in such a product. I found her reaction quite strange considering how good he was. Why wouldn't he be in?

In case anyone does not know who Boxscribe is. He is the author of the book *Charley Burley And The Black Murderers Row* Burley was arguably the greatest boxer never win a world title and the most feared fighter of his generation. To quote from All Time Great Archie Moore "In my prime Burley gave me a boxing lesson" I myself have always considered Burley one of the greats of our beloved fight game and was one of the first to buy Harry's book.

Thank you again Harry for taking the time to write that book. It was clearly wrote as a labour of love for a once great fighter who sadly it seems is often forgotten or at least not well known to the average casual modern boxing fan.

On a last note Harry please give my best regards to Julia and please tell her old fight fans like myself will never forget her husband and what a great fighter and more important what a great man he was.
Great to see you here Harry.

I've got to put in a plug for your book as well. It is a top flight work and an excellent tribute to a generation's sadly forgotten stars.

Burley

Danny and Bear,

Thank you for your very kind comments. It is great that boxing fans and historians alike enjoyed my efforts.

This is a good thread because I had never given a thought as to how some of the more well-known fighters would take to how they are represented in the game.

Bear, can you imagine debating with some of the greats at Graziano's about how their chin and punching power are rated in Title Bout!

I did think it was weird talking to Julia Burley about the game. Though it definately gives her and her children/granchildren a buzz to see the man in there.

Gonna have to put your book on my list .. but I like to pass books around the community so it may hurt your sales by 2 or 3 LOL.

Last year we had four or five IBRO members sitting Graziano's and talking about game ratings. We just happened to mention the game to some of the veterans that were there. I believe Austin rated some of the guys he spoke with who weren't in the game. The words "You know, we have to get you into this game." were uttered more than once by Austin and by Don Cogswell to veteran boxers there. We about talked the game and its ratings for over 40 factors with some veterans who weren't familair with Title Bout. Jofre was there, too, from the IBRO guys. Ice tea was also at the IBHOF.

On the topic of veteran fighters, I seem to remember seeing a copy of the Avalon Hill board game that had been owned by Gene Tunney up for auction somewhere.

LOL..yeah you would think so. He is at his most confident(cocky)when streetfighting or playing basketball. I havent seen him in quite sometime and really dont know him very well, but I live in a rural area and there are quite a few stories about some of his legendary bar fights in Williamson(small town on border of WV and Kentucky). The last pic I saw it looked as if he had gained a lot of weight..but he used to be quite a good jumper. He had near a 40 inch vertical leap. Started out in toughman. Explains a lot eh? LOL

Tom, I've sent you a PM.

Guys, I don't mind who buys the book and who passes it around - as long as you don't buy one between you all

As long as Burley's story becomes more well known I've done my job.
