What position did he play? How was his defense? Did his teams win any championships?

Stuff that should be included in HOF considerations in this game. I do that manually in my solo leagues.

Good points all. Joel was a SS, with excellent defense, although it declined to D/.945 by the time he retired at age 39.

He won the World Series with Baltimore in 2013 and 2014 and San Francisco in 2018.

He won 4 Batter of the Month awards and was a 3 time all-star.

I hope that helps.

I think he should.. Just because he wasn't a HOF in hits/HR doesn't mean he isn't one. And since you said he was good defensively it sealed my vote -- Case and point, Ozzie Smith (although I doubt he was THAT good..)

A good defensive shortstop with 400 homers and a career 900 OPS? Plus he won some titles, seems like a pretty good HOFer to me.

If anyone has Rolen's rosters (I don't have them handy), they can confirm where he started defensively. I do know that he started his career with an A range. I don't remember his fielding percentage, though.

And don't forget those 900 stolen bases. My gut feeling is he gets in, and that's how the votes are going, however I'm going to leave the topic active for a while.

How come when I go to vote in a poll, it comes up with some page telling me I can't do this action, etc. etc. etc.

Ugh.

It might have something to do with whether you can accept cookies. I know I had to change my settings before I could respond to a poll on some other site.

Exactly. This is a no-brainer.

This is the type of guy that would get 98% of the vote in a real HOF election. I mean, I .300 hitting SS, with 400 HR, and 900!!! Stolen Bases, come on!

Thanks. I think you were right, b/c when I used AOL, it got the error; when I use explorer, it doesn't.

I think he's a lock. Good defensive SS. A winner. An All-Star. Plus he hit .300 (almost), 400HRs,etc,etc, etc.

He's got my vote....If I had one.

You have to look at more thatn AVG and HR's. Those are just two aspects of many. SS are mainly defensive (until now with rodriguez, jeter, and co.) they are supposed to be good a defense first and hit second. A SS with 400 HR and a .299 avg with 908 sb (which i think is 3rd or 4th all time) is rare in the grand scheme of baseball history. I vote him IN.

I think what we have he is, in essence, a superman version of Barry Larkin (who probably is going into the real hall). He has hit .299 too, with 181 HR, and 362 SB as of 2001, and is good on defense...

The real Joel Guzman is currently playing for the Great Falls Dodgers and hitting .228/2/15 in 79 at-bats. 3 SB, 2 CS. SLG of .354 and OBP of .337. 10 errors so far. It will be interesting to see if he ever becomes anything like my fictional Joel Guzman.

The Great Falls Dodgers statistics page looks like it came right out of OOTP.
