Post You guys get a lot of Triple Crown winners?

Hi,

Just finished a season (using Rolens rosters) where Luis Gonzalez ran away with the triple crown in both leagues. No one even came close to him in any of the categories. Actually he won the quadruple crown cause he led both leagues in runs scored too.

.375 BA
67 HRs
186 RBI
189 runs

His ratings BA good (7)
Hr's Brilliant (12)

Anyway just kind of wondering if in your league the triple crown winner is a regular occurance.

In replaying 1962-1979 at this point, Hank Aaron as a Met won the triple crown in 1963, and Merv Rettenmund lost out on the triple crown as a Cardinal in 1975 as teammate Ron Cey beat him in RBI's on the last day of the seaason.

Rogers Hornsby won it in 1930 in Glory Days. That's one time in 14 seasons thusfar.

I haven't seen a Triple Crown Winner yet, and that includes OOTP2 & OOTP3.

I am going to put up a huge post about my 62 league with the Mets, because it is fun 7 world titles for the Mets thus far, but some rebuilding between reigns.

Aaron was acquired in 1962 for Frank Thomas and Ed Kranepool. Kranepool was a huge prospect and Thomas became a 400 homer player.

My allstar shortstop, Michael Hill, won the Triple Crown last season. He kinda did it the cheap way though, because he tied for first in both batting average, and rbi's.

This kid is a STUD player. I drafted him in the 4th round, and he breezed through the minors in one season, and then won Rookie of the Year the following year. Then in the following 3 seasons, he has won the MVP award.

Four years in the majors, and the kid has 1 ROY award, and 3 MVP awards. He just turned 27 and I've been paying him 100,000 per year. Not bad

Ouch. The manager should have benched Cey on the last day of the season, unless the penant was on the line.

In 1932, my Universal Baseball Association's 2nd season, Hollywood's Vince Simeon missed the league Triple Crown by just 4 RBIs!

Then in 1943, Dallas outfield Wingo Becker became the UBA's first Triple Crown winner with a BA of .384, 57 homers and 142 ribbies.

Nine years later, Hal 'Moxie' Maddox won the first of three straight MVP awards and became the first Union League Triple Crown winner with a .350, 48 HRs and 144 RBI showing for Brooklyn. Maddox missed out on his second consecutive Triple Crown by six homers in '53.

Although he will never win the Triple Crown, in my own UBA, Portland Pioneer right-hander Brock Rutherford has been in my association for six years. At the tender age of just 25, Brock the Great already has won the Rookie of the Year in '49 (Year XIX), plus five times been named the Union League Pitcher of the Year. Rutherford already has a record of 133-52, including a record 25 wins in a row and 29 wins in a season (back in '51).

This is all fascinating stuff.

Rettenmund nearly won the triple in 1976 and the Redbirds were in a dead heat with the Pirates for first place, so I guess the manager did the right thing LOL........ St Louis won the world series that year.

I've never had a triple crown winner, although I've only played about 20 seasons.

Thumbs up

My star LF Cary Smith has won The Triple Crown the last two or three years in a row. I know he has won the MVP all three years, but I can't remember if he got the TC the first year like he has the last two. He is only 26 or 27 and is a 4 time MVP with over 300 career homers already. He also holds the National League all time record for runs scored in a season. Also, he is always among the leaders in runs scored as well as stolen bases... on top of being dominant in RBIs, HR, and average, of course.

I am hoping he stays healthy enough to be the greatest hitter ever. He has a shot to hold a lot of records if he stays healthy and plays a full career into his late 30's.

In my current game, early in the league's history I had one fellow named Edward Maynard win the league MVP nine out of eleven seasons, including winning the triple crown five times.

(This player was not doctored).

I renamed the MVP award the Edward Maynard Award in honor of this legendary slugging second-baseman.

In 100 years of simming there were two guys (both on my team) who won the triple crown.
