I guess this is the place to ask this

I want to start making some of those circle logo like you guys make. Is there a Photoshop template you guys use? I try to make my own template the but the Team City and names never look right, even though the circles look center.

Here is an example of one I tried to do:

See how the Jacksonville looks terrible.

I want to make it even all over but don't have the expertise to do it. I was wondering if you had a template I could use. If not that, maybe some tips.

I am no logo maker, just a logo manipulator.

But you may want to make your template larger. Real big. Then put your text in and then resize down to the proper size.

I bet that makes a big difference.

Jax, if you have Photoshop CS (or CS2, I'd imagine) this may be of interest to you:

http://www.heathrowe.com/tuts/textonapath.asp

Just create a "work path" and add text along it. You might need to create more than one path, but it should work.

Circle Format and Text Templates

I have a folder with Knucklers template and I have created my own template for text. It is easy to use just edit the properties of the text, save as a raster image and then cut and paste it on the circle template. I usually do the city name or the team nickname individually so that the text can be manipulated to fit the template to fit your taste.

Sometimes there is a bit of resizing on the image but usually it fits nicely.

Hope this helps. BTW, I use PSP, but saved these files as a PSD file, they should work fine since they import nicely into PSP 9.0 after I converted them to the PSD files.

I don't think it looks as bad as you think it does to be honest. A couple of things that might help, though they aren't a direct response to what you say you are having problems with. The circles are a little bit jagged. I'm not sure how you are creating them, but if you just use the brush tool, they will come out with smooth edges. Set it to something like 146 for the initial one and then figure out a size you like for the inner circle.

When you write your text, set the anti-aliasing(at the top tool bar in text mode, it says aa) to "smooth" for the font to come out less rough.

The best way to get the font to get the precise curve is in eriqjaffe's post. I'm a bit lazy and just type the font out and bend it using the warped text tool. I usually line it up with the inner circle to try and get it somewhat right. But, you're right, it doesn't look as good that way(guilty as charged).

Anyways, not sure if this is helpful or not. Good luck.

I agree with knuckler. The jaggedness is probably a bigger problem than the text.

Long names are tough....and I use the warp text, also. I struggle and fight with it...especially with long names like Jacksonville. You just about nailed the jacksonville. If you use the move text tool and check the "show transform controls" and stretch the jacksonville up a little, I bet you would of nailed the jacksonville.

Clear up the jaggedness of the circles and it won't be long before you are addicted to making logos.

I was using the elipse tool, because I wanted each one as a layer. That way I could change the color and add strokes and stuff if wanted. I just didn't think of the way you told me.

Hey Eric, I have 7.0 can that also type along the path? Because I can create the path but I don't know how to get the type to go on it. Every time I hit the type tool it doesn't do what the tutorial says.

Using the paint brush, the edges are still there. Any clue on how to cut that down?

Jax -

If you use the elipse tool, at the top there should be a check box for anti-alias. Is that checked for you when you are using it?

Nope. Typing along a path was introduced in CS (which would be Photoshop 8, chronologically speaking).
