Players not following Financial Rules

Players that play in a high salary league and then sign a free agent contract with a low salary league seem to ignore the financial rules set for the new league.

In the example provided, Omar Serrino went from the MLB (a high salary league) to the Puerto Rico League (a low salary league) during free agency. Serrino signed a 7 year, 88 million dollar contract. The Puerto Rico League is setup to only allow Superstar players to make 2 million a year. The game seems to ignore the financial rules set for the league he is signing with and instead used the financial rules for the league he left. Here are some screen shots:

Here is the financial report for the Puerto Rico League, notice how at least 4 players are making way over the Super Star Quality Player typical salary.

I'm seeing this a lot in my INT leagues and it's making most teams go deep into the red. I really hope there will be an additional patch that will correct this.

Still, I think you're onto something there. I suspect the problem is due to those massive amounts of capital, in combination with this fix from the final patch 2:

It's obviously pretty insane to offer $12+ million per year to a single player when your salary cap is just twice that, but it's not inconceivable. In other words, I don't think it's the case that the AI uses the wrong league's financial settings, it just looks similar. Well, at least I'm hoping so, for my own universe's sake.

Edit: I've never played with the "Team owner controls budget?" setting set to "entire revenue available"...does that mean that each season's balance rolls over completely into the next budget? If some teams are consistently running a profit each year, that could be leading to those huge budgets over time. Perhaps changing that setting back to the default would be all it takes to eradicate this problem...

Judging by the rest of the salaries, it looks like it's entirely possible to field a decent team even with one player taking so much of the cap.

I actually like that the AI will go beyond the salary limits if they can afford it--although 6x the "Superstar" salary is a bit much.

If there's any problem, I think it's with the AI and salary cap management. Does the AI actually consider the cap, or does the game just not allow it sign/trade for players who would put them above it? Teams always have budgets that go beyond the cap, even taking into account personnel salary.

Figuring out and fixing the insane amount of money those teams have will be in my next test. It is just worry some that the AI completely ignored the recommended salary for superstar players when signing them.

Well, it sort of makes sense given their huge budgets. If it still happens after you fix those, then there's likely a significant problem. (Though salary cap space handling may be a problem shown already.)

A thought on this issue.

It would be nice to have the budget amount split to 2 fields. One being the CASH RESERVES (money to be used in the future when the team does start to fail) and CASH BUDGET (this would be the amount to pay your teams salaries) This way if the Salary Cap is at 25M it would not matter that you have 200M in CASH RESERVES. Of course this could be an option and in leagues with no cash budgets or salary caps then the amounts for both fields would be the same. Just an idea. Don't know what it would take to put this into the game - but it would be neat.

As I mentioned in my post above, the teams in my International leagues are losing LOTS of money because of the signings of a free agent or two who is getting way over the superstar avg. salary.

Here's just one example from a team in one league:

A superstar in this league gets around $1.5 mil. on the avg., but Ty Minford is getting over $25.5 mil. Virtually every team in this league has this problem and most are losing money because of this bug

Do you know if this is limited to signing players, or are some teams also trading for guys with such excessive contracts?

In my league, it is only for the signing of players. None of the players that have excessive contracts have been traded.
