Tell me a little about overall ratings...
...especially for pitchers. What are the most important criteria in determining a pitchers overall value as demonstrated by his overall ratings. For example, I have seen two pitchers with very similar ratings for control movement and stuff but one will have an overall of 29 and the other will have much higher, say high 40's. They are also rated for endurance, holding runners, batting abilitys, speed and base running, pitching velocity, fielding along with personality, greed, leadership etc. I just can't see these things carring as much weight as the "Big Three" do in determining overall rating. Does Age play a role? I'm just trying to get a grasp on where these numbers come from. Anyone, please comment.

If these are starting pitchers, the endurance is definitely going to play a factor in the overall rating. Also, if they have their "roles" set to different things (i.e. one is a SP, one is a MR) those will effect what their ratings equal out to as far as an overall rating. In other words, a player can have a different overall rating at SP than they have at MR.

Also, velocity will play a role.

So, you are saying that if I change a pitchers role, his overall rating will change to a rating for that role, not just for his pitching ability?

Yes, mainly because of endurance. A guy with a low endurance isn't going to be considered a very good staring pitcher, while he may very well be a good MR. |
