Supposed free agents getting automatic renewals

I set up a league in which free agency is granted after one year and there is no arbitration. The idea was that the league would be a rookie-level independent league where guys could potentially get picked up by an affiliated organization after one year of play. I set the number of days of experience for a full year to 90 so that all players with significant time would end up as free agents if they didn't have a multi-year deal.

Anyway, at the end of the first year, I was surprised at the low number of free agents. I looked into it and found that players with one year of league play were not being granted free agency. They were getting automatic renewals. I simmed another year, and sure enough, they were still getting automatic renewals.

This isn't how it's supposed to work. If I set free agency to occur after one year of experience, anyone who reaches one year should not be getting automatic renewals. I know I'm not the only one who uses the idea of "feeder" leagues, so I'm not the only one who would be affected by this.

You need to turn arbitration to one year. There won't be any actual arbitration, but it does get the game to make a check on players so they'll become free agents.

Funny, I was actually going to try that but it was late last night and I didn't want to stay up to do it. Okay, good to know. Thanks for the info.

I do still think it's a bug, though. If you set free agency to a year, it should be at a year, arbitration or not.

It's created by confusing the computer. In your circumstance you should have disabled the arbitration setting, or knock it down to a minimum time if you can't disable it. I'd still think it's a slight bug, it should adjust the arbitration number down automatically (or in your case disabled it) automatically when you change the free agency default...

but you confused your computer... you should be nicer to your computer, it works hard for you.

That's what it does, actually. If you change the free-agency limit from the default six years to "1 year" or "no FA", the arbitration field is automatically reset to "no arb" along with it.

If you switch FA to a value greater than one year, but equal or smaller than your current arb setting, arb is automatically changed to "FA years minus 1".

I don't think it would have been that confused. I had arbitration turned off completely and free agency set at one year.

ctorg,

Sorry for the slow response to this thread. I believe this issue was resolved in the latest version of the game (1.0.2.12262). Are you still seeing this problem?

Thanks,

Steve

We have a rule that states that Tech Support threads wherein we have not received a response within 7 days will be closed.

This one meets this criteria, so I'm closing this.

If you want to discuss it again, just PM me with the thread link, and I'll re-open. (Don't just say "Hey, reopen my thread." I need to know the URL, thanks!)
