Virgin OOTPB questions

I became aware of this game via the review in Sports Weekly. I am a die-hard Status Pro Baseball geek and have always wanted a sim game for the PC. This appears to be what I have been looking for.

I have played with this a little, printed off the guide and read the boards. I realize I may be a tool and missed the answers somewhere (either board or guide), so I thought I would give a summary of what I want to do in a game like this and hope that some of you can guide/explain how I do them.

1) I basically would like to start out with the 2006 MLB rosters/teams etc. Does not matter if they are up-to-date or at start of this season.

2) I would like the ability to manage any team in a game when I feel like it and sim the rest w/o adverse effects (injured/tired players not sitting etc)

3) I would like the ability to GM (or manage) a team and set lineups, pitching rotations, etc and sim from there. Would also like the game to notify me of injury so that I could do the replacements as needed.

4) I would like the ability to just do MLB universe and not minors sometimes.

Any info/assistance to these questions is appreciated. I am really interested in this game, but I am really green to PC sim games. I am/was a board-game geek.

To avoid being a board-pest, I was wondering if someone would be willing to be an email mentor to me as I learn this game. Someone who is experienced in the nuances of the game that I could email questions to as I come across them. If you would, email me at osubuxx@gmail.com and let me know - it would be appreciated!

I would suggest posting all Q's since inevitably you're not the 1st nor will be the last to have the question and some people might actually search for questions and find answers to your questions...

As for your questions, all I have to add is that I still can't figure it out. I've been effectively told I'm a boob because I can't figure it out, but I can't. Not sure how "Commissioner", "GM" and "Manager" modes differ. Perhaps it's my problem getting passed the whole "identity" thing in order to be able to do anything. In any event, prior attempts to explain it, IMHO, were not clear so I'm hoping someone responds to you and can eloquently explain the differences.

You start with the hardest! There is currently a roster set in Beta version available at www.themodsquad.com from Rolen/CubbyFan which is still in progress - I think the minors are a bit wonky, but the majors are fine! By all accounts, it's super.

Easily done - you set up depth charts to deal with player fatigue.

It indeed does!

You certainly can! Do you just mean the big-leagues? However, it might be quite tricky to do with a real roster set - you might need to ask someone who knows a bit more than me about that!

A demo with a 30-day limit is available (I might leave it until tomorrow when a slightly better build of this patch comes out!). Give it a whirl and feel free to pester us here about what's going on.

I was a Tony LaRussa freak who found OOTP2 by chance and never looked back. I've lost a lot of my life since then to this game!

Right, I'm going to give this a whirl - sorry previous advice hasn't been great!

Okay, 'COMMISIONER' mode was primarily intended to be for on-line leagues. It gives you full control over the editing features, along with (and this is crucial) the ability to 'act as' any single team, for making roster moves, trades etc. 'Acting as' a team does not simulate GM functions - i.e. you won't get notifications of injuries, of contract extensions etc.

A 'GM' is good old fashioned OOTPing. Note, you can set yourself up as a GM with 'commisioner powers' by starting the game with commissioner mode checked but also selecting a team to take control of in the enter manager mode.

A 'MANAGER' is, if you want to play in the GM-career mode, is what you start out as in the minors before you get a proper GM job. Unless the commisioner option is checked, you won't have any GM-ing powers, control over rosters above or below you, and only limited control of your own players (the big-league GM may trade or release them).

Is that any better?

Don't worry about being a board-pest here, this forum is about as tolerable as you'll find anywhere for that kind of thing. If you do have a question and can't seem to get it answered on the board, you can hit me up on AIM if you have it and I'll try to help you out.
