What happens when you release a player?
It seems like when I release a guy, the future years in their contracts come off my books. Its as if the contract wasn't garunteed (NFL style) so my budget doesn't seem to be stuck with any "dead money" (I am running w/o a salary cap).
I can't tell for sure because there has only been one time where a big money signing has been such an irrevocable bust that I felt the need to release him outright. But once I did, my projected budget went down. It really shouldn't work that way right? I should be stuck with the full value of his contract for the duration, regardless if he is playing on my team or sitting on the free agent list. Anyone know how the game treats this scenario? |

You pay the cost of the remaining contract immediately. So, if you release a guy with 3 years left at 3 million per year, you will pay 9 million when you release him.
