OOTP5 (Free) - Player ratings cleared in Season 2008?

I've been playing OOTP5 with the default settings from the beginning (Season 2003). No changes to the initial setup save for using some custom logos for the teams so that they match real MLB squads.

Everything has been running great until Season 2008. Preseason starts fine but all of the players on the user controlled team (my team vs. computer controlled teams) have ALL of their hitting/pitching ratings cleared to nothing - all ratings are 0. The fielding stats remain, the player history remains, and the computer controlled teams are unaffected.

To resolve, I have restored from a previous "good" backup of OOTP - both before and after I first used the custom logos. I have uninstalled and reinstalled OOTP and the restored from good backups. Again, the probem remains.

If anyone has feedback it is appreciated. I would very much like to see how my Rookie of the Year third basemen's career goes before moving on to OOTP 2006. If I enjoy the new version even half as much as I've enjoyed OOTP5 I'll be thrilled.

The system specs:

XP SP2
2GB RAM
AMD XP Athlon 2.0Ghz
200GB SATA drive

No viruses, no spyware - very clean machine.
