Can't bunt with the bases loaded

I'm running with the first 1.0.2 beta patch. I was playing out a game.
Bases were loaded - only one out - and I couldn't bunt!

You know, this may be a silly question, but would anyone really bunt with the bases loaded and one out?

Do people actually do this?

Just curious to hear from some more knowledgeable people than myself!

When Don Zimmer managed the Cubs he put on the hit and run with the bases loaded more than once. So while I can't think of a time I have seen it someone somewhere has probably done it.

I could see someone like Juan Pierre or a Brett Butler, in the past, doing it if the IF was playing back. Though with a bunter of Pierres quality I would bet the corners while maybe not "full in" would be at least cheating in some to discourage him.

I spoke more with Markus about this, and in his research into MLB history, he couldn't find a single instance of someone bunting with the bases loaded and two outs, which is why he elected not to make this an option.

At this point, this issue is essentially closed, unless anyone can come up with some strong evidence as to why it should be an option.

Thanks!

Steve,
My issue was bunting with bases loaded and only one out. I wanted to do it to avoid getting into a double play.

Sorry, that was my bad, but I did provide the correct information to Markus. I know that he based the options on plays that actually have occurred in baseball. I believe he feels that the data shows that people don't bunt in that situation.

I've sent it back to him to reconfirm this with the Retrosheet data that he uses, though. Just curious though, if you didn't want to get into a double play, why didn't you just take the pitches, and hope that he gets walked? With a bunt, it's very unlikely that you would manage to get the runners safe all around...

Just a thought.

No need for Markus to look further...
Game 1 of the 2003 American League Division Series
(by the way, it was a 2-out bunt!)

ATHLETICS 12TH: Durazo walked; Chavez forced Durazo (second to
shortstop); Tejada grounded out (third to first) [Chavez to
second]; Hatteberg walked while Chavez stole third; Hatteberg
advanced to second because of defensive indifference [Hatteberg
to second]; Long was walked intentionally; On a bunt Hernandez
singled to third [Chavez scored, Hatteberg to third, Long to
second]; 1 R, 1 H, 0 E, 3 LOB. Red Sox 4, Athletics 5
