Photos Directory Now Working!!!
Whoooo Hoooo !!!!!
One of my all-time game improvement requests seems to have been made in the latest patch!!! Now, you can put ALL your photos in the photos directory (located in the games main data directory)!!!! I now have 4,357 player photos in one directory. This is heaven. I no longer need to worry about bringing the appropriate photos into each league. What's really cool is that there is a ranking of where the game looks to obtain its photos for each player. So you might have a picture of a guy in a Red Sox cap in the main photo directory. But pretend for a moment that the guy is now with the Yankees, so you could put his photo with the Yankees cap in the games images directory (located under news/HTML/images for that particular league) and the guy will show up in the Yankees cap ONLY when you are playing that league. If you play any other league with that player, the guy will appear with the Red Sox cap. So, the game looks in the local league for a photo first and if not found, it will look in the main photos directory. VERY NICE!!! Thanks Markus!!! |

I am glad that they took this suggestion in. I haven't tested it myself yet, but it will certainly save space having the bulk of photos in just one place.

wow, this is brilliant! i guess if you *really* wanted to get detailed you could have a new photo every year to show aging too (more useful for recent yrs when photos are easy to find).

It wasn't working with the previous patch.
Now it is. Try it. Load a picture of your favorite player in your current league (news/HTML/images) into your paint program. Modify the picture (in some way that you will recognize!) and save it to the games PHOTO directory. Be sure to save it with the same name as you were originally using. Now delete the same picture from your game league (news/HTML/images) directory. Check the picture in the game (roster or what-ever)and you will see the modified picture. Now restore the deleted file in the league (news/HTML/images), check it again, and you will see the original pic. (EDIT: Yep it works with the SION html pages ) Last edited by Sir Real; 07-09-2006 at 04:48 PM. |

Also I tested this awhile ago and only named photos worked, numbered ones did not. Did you see it work with numbered photos? |

I have never used numbered photos, so I can't comment on that.
However, since you can now keep an unlimited number of photos in one directory, why bother with numbered photos any longer? (Just create/use a named photo for every guy in your league.) After further testing, the photos are not always showing up on the SION pages. I will do more testing tonight. Last edited by Sir Real; 07-10-2006 at 08:49 AM. |

I did a little more testing last night.
Unfortunately, the SION pages are not working, but I bet this is a simple fix for Markus. Here is my temporary work-around. Delete the default_player_photo.jpg in the league directory (news/HTML/images). No picture will show up on the SION pages, but in my opinion this is better than the default image. And the convenience of having all my photos in one directory over-rides having to see the player image in the SION pages. Once Markus points the SION pages to look at the photos directory, this problem should be solved to everyone's satisfaction. I tested the logos, too, but found they actually work just like in the customization guide. If you create your logos and put them in the main logos directory, the game will copy the needed logos from there and put a copy into your local league file. (This only works when you are creating a new league. If you put the logos into the main logos directory after the league has begun, the game does not see them.) To me the big advantage of the Photos method is that the game does NOT copy them into the league directory which saves space (and also allows you to over-ride the main photos directory as I described earlier). |

Wanted to bump this to say I found something interesting last night.... If you put your pics in the main directory and then start a new game it will use the pics on all pages. but it makes a copy of the pics in the saved game folder too. so you don't really save any space, but you don't have to add the pics each and every time either

I just downloaded the latest patch and YES, now, the photo directory is working perfectly. THANKS Markus!
It still allows you to prioritize a photo in the local directory. If no photo is found, it then searches the main photo directory and copies that file to the local directory. And the SION pages are now picking up the photos, unlike the previous patch. So, although it is eating up a bit of space by copying files to the local game directory, it is only choosing the photos as they are needed in that particular game, so it is being efficient. (I'm glad it didn't copy my entire photo directory for every new game, which is basically what I have been doing.) This feature should be well received I would imagine, but I don't even recall seeing it mentioned in the upgrade notices. Thanks again guys. This is great! |

It seems that the Sion pages only include the photo IF the player profile has been opened. If the player profile is opened, OOTP searches the main photo directory for the photo. If it finds one, it copies it to the images/html directory under the league directory. Once it is there, it will appear on the Sion 'web' pages. In other words, if you click on a player's name in the Sion 'web' pages to open their player web page, it will not show a photo unless the player profile was opened first.
