Well I said when the time came, I'd eat my words

As I've said over and over again, I was very displeased with the current state of this game at release. and patch 1 definitely didn't make a whole lot better from what I had seen. there was still way way too many bugs to really get as deep into a game as I had with 6.5. I was very critical of Marc and SI. Well I am going to admit right now, I should have had more faith in Markus. This 2nd patch has made the game so much more playable. I have spent all day getting deeper in the game than I have in weeks. This patch was a huge huge step in the right direction. So I am now eating my words for all the crap I have said in the past. My faith in Markus has now been completely restored and I will not be saying another bad thing from here on out. Thanks Markus for making me eat my words. I can't even begin to express just how happy I am that I was proved to be wrong that working with SI was gonna be a bad thing. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see where future patches will take this game.

So even if there's something horribly morbidly wrong with- say- next year's release, or the version that comes out in 2010, you'll at no point say anything critical? Odd.

I can't get that excited. The number of bugs were very unreasonable after an 18-month wait and I just can't get excited about solo play until the screens are cleaned up (i.e. you can actually see the catcher arm rating displayed (type doesn't fit on the screen and it's black on black).

Takes two screens to see everything you want when one well-managed screen would be nice.

But the pbp speed and number of clicks were dramatically fixed in this patch and that is significant progress. Other game-ruining bugs also seem to be squashed this time.

Customer service and attempts to listen are just as excellent as when Markus first started and that's why I'll hang in there. But, once the bugs are fixed, they really need to pay attention to solo players and a much more visually appealing game screen -- how about being able to see the complete text for the play by play as one more simple example?

If the answer is that these are feature or wish list requests and we'll have to wait until OOTP 2008, I won't be back for the next round. I've supported every version and every other text sim on the market and will finally choose the most enjoyable, visually appealing solo experience. The competition is getting much, much better. Markus definitely raised the bar.

I know this is a minor thing to most gamers here, but it is important to at least a few of us...the ones who play out all, some or most of their games.

Hope Markus and the SI crew will address this and other poor graphics soon.

I will download this patch and see if they got most of the bugs and problems fixed.

After waiting a year and a half, I am ready to create my perfect baseball universe.

I hope this patch does it for me.

But I will be patient and wait longer, if necessary.

It is a great game.

I really hope our opinions count for something, even though it's just two of us. We've supported this since the start, certainly participated on the boards, tried to stay patient, diplomatic and avoid flaming anyone.

For the first time, and I support every single one of these programmers and their baseball text sim games, but I must say that PureSim has pulled ahead for the joy of solo play, quick lineup changes, watching the games with a beautiful stadium photo, the ease of importing stadiums, logos, player faces, and pretty darn appealing in-flight ball views.

They've improved the speed, have several options to sim to different points of the game, or allow the game to play automatically while you watch without clicking a button. AI is still a little short, but trading block and all functions related to that are very easy. It's like the Reader's Digest condensed version of what Markus is trying to tackle, but, honestly, right now it is the most engrossing and fun solo play game today.

I do have to agree.....ingame is still lacking. But the work they did on other area renews my hope that Marcus won't let this part of the game die.

I also agree that PbP in 6.5 was much better in that side window where you could see all the text.

What are the negatives of Puresim?

I enjoy playing OOTP6.5, but not V2006...it is too complex for a dunce like me. But because it has the minor leagues and improved PBP, I will struggle through it once the game gets stable and bugs are fixed.

In four years I learned quite a bit about OOTPB...I am afraid it may take me 8 years to get familiar with V2006 and future versions...and I am too old to wait that long.

The biggest problem I have with Pursim is that the AI seems kinda week. Ingame, it is hard to get a base running to go to 3rd on a single. Things like that.

Their in-game interface is sweet though.

I agree TheoR. PureSim is too easy to win and the AI needs improving. But man is solo play a joy when you can have all your favorite stadiums, watch in-game ball flight, see the play by play text display season stats and the game stats for that player, sounds that work and are relevant.

Most importantly, because they paid a licensing fee to Lahman, their data imports better, the fields are more accurate, historical simming is flawless, including real players in the minors and no fictionals forced on you in the odd way that OOTP 2006 has somehow evolved.

The solo, in-game play is so much easier to see, read, get all the relevant stats and you have keyboard shortcuts to immediately change the lineup, etc.

Flawed but fun would be my summary of PureSim 2007. Their current discount to $14.99 is hard to beat.

Flawed, too complicated, and not fun for solo players would be my summary of OOTP 2006 with patch #2.

But I want to be fair. I have supported both of these developers and both of these text sims -- along with Diamond Mind, Action PC Baseball and Strat-O-Matic because I'm still looking for the best, my own Field of Dreams.

Perhaps my hopes were too high for OOTP. PureSim has made the best improvements, Baseball Mogul is surprisingly improved from years ago, and the first one to combine Markus' depth with PureSim's ease, fun and in-game visuals could corner the market where I only buy one baseball sim per year.

My purchase in the past two weeks of the newest versions of PureSim and Baseball Mogul were directly due to my frustration with OOTP 2006. And I'm not alone if you check the forums over there. And that's important. I think there are enough of us that support the entire market. We're not playing one off the other, but we are hoping that someone will finally hit a home run.

Stand up move, Oz. I'm guessing there are those who've considered finding all of those posts so as to prepare them for chewing word by word.

But we know you've probably posted SO much since then they're already past that 500 history mark and unable to be recovered. Ah.....

Seriously, good for you. It's important to believe strongly in something, and even though I didn't agree with your approach, I envied your vigorous and relentless loyalty to your viewpoint. In the end though, I was unexpectedly impressed with Marc's willingness to address each and every one of those posts and concerns with equal diligence, determined to find a way to resolve the problem once having defined it adequately.

Baseball's all about opposing teams. Sometimes we win the game from both sides, together. Salutes.

Yea, thanks for that...
I don't expect everyone to agree with my way of things. but here's the background on it. I absolutely loved 6.12 and 6.5. Was easily the most fun I've ever had with a baseball game. I played the game so many times that my fiance and her daughter think it's all I do. Sure there were some flaws in it. but overall it was and is an absolutely amazing game. and then I was so excited about this new version, and so I got it as soon as it was released. start playing and was like, where's the game I love? this isn't OOTP. So Yea I was vocal about my disappointment. Did I go over the top? hell yes I did, I will be the first to admit that. but I am always vocal about things I am passionate about. So again Marc especially, thanks for bearing with me through my anger and dissapointment. and to Markus, thanks for making this game much closer to the game I have loved!!

It's nice to read posts like these, especially since I have similar thoughts about how the game was pre patch 1.0.2.

I'm still enjoying 6.5 immensly, so I can hold off until the next patch or next version.. but reading these types of posts have me hopeful the game is going in the right direction.
