Dead Ball Recommendations

With regards to General Strategic Tendencies, Player Creation Modifier, and League Totals...

I'm curious what other people recommend as realistic dead ball-era settings that affect stolen bases and home runs.

If you still have 6.12, go to www.pro-circuit.net and get the league file.
I'll PM the commish password so you can see all that we use.

Here you go:

League Totals:
100000
23100
4126
400
4650
7400
826
32000
.275

Player Creation:
Batter Contact 10% (1.1 in new version)
Batter Gap 15% (1.15)
Batter Power -60% (.4)
Batter Eye 5% (1.05)
Batter Strikeouts 0%
Pitcher Stuff 25% (1.25)
Pitcher Control 10% (1.1)
Pitcher Movement 0%
Pitcher Endurance 33% (1.33)
Player Speed 11% (1.11)
Player Stealing 5% (1.05)

These are just the numbers we use in Pro Circuit and have given us great results. However, our HR numbers are a bit higher than Deadball numbers by design. Tweak to your liking.

Cool

I tried a test league with around those numbers in 1871. ML had 90 games on down the line to 42 games for Rookie ball. I had around 180 or more strikeouts which seems a little high. Any suggestion to lowering the strike outs.

Raise the strikeouts number in the league totals by the pct of decease you want in your league totals.

EXAMPLE: If you want 3% less strikeouts, multiply the number next to strikeouts in the league totals by 103% and change the number to the number you get when multiplying.

Here is what I have been playing around with. I used that figures from above. I am keeping watch on a certain pitcher, Daniel 13 movement and 18 endurance. I left the MLE for the league at 1.000. In 1871 Daniel had 187 SO. In 1872 MLE was set to .80, and he had 4 SO. Finally 1873 set MLE at .90 and Daniel had 114 SO. In 1873 League had 8 teams and 1089 SO total, which 272 average per team for 90 games. Which leads to 3 strike outs per game. Is that too high or too low?

My BA is on the high side, all teams over .300. Trying BA at .90 and SO at .85 for 1874 to see what is going to happen.

Daniel's ratings are 18,16,20 on a 1-20 scale. In 1874 he had zero strike outs with MLE set at .85 for SO. Leagues were down in BA big time. Averages were down to .220. Also the League ERA went south too from 8.00 plus to under 2.00.

What do modifiers do that are next to the league totals? I am trying something different, unchecking the two boxes for the player creation modifies and league totals one. Also will try BA at .95 and SO at .885. See what happens.

Ok, that did not work for 1875. Strike out leader had over 450. Daniel lead his league with 441 strike outs. Batting average was under 1.75 and league ERA was around 1.00. Back to the drawing board

1876 saw Batting averages in .380's and above and ERA over 6.00. No homers again, very low strike outs, and Daniel had 2 strike outs with a rating of 19,16,17. Back to the drawing board again.
