Role call: Who's still playing OOTP 5?
I still am, mainly because the jury is still out for me on the newest version ... I was away from OOTP during the 6.0 version run and am just now coming back to it (crazy life happenings for the past 2 years or so...) ... Didn't realize how much I missed OOTP until I started reading some old dynasties...

I'm still using OOTP5. I know that there are improvements in OOTP6/6.5, but OOTP5 works fine for me right now. I had planned on getting the new version, but am waiting to see how and when the bugs are worked out.

All the solo fictional leagues I have started since the release of 6.0 have been created with the new version. I do have 2 leagues that I play once in a while that were created with 5.0 and I do not want to ruin them by converting them over to 6 or to OOTP2006. I also do not plan on importing any of my version 6.5 leagues over to OOTP2006. I just plan on creating new leagues/universes..... So I do have OOTP 5 and 6 both loaded on the PC and still have the CD for 2 and 3.
For the solo experience 5 is still a very good game, but if you play 6 you will get spoiled a bit by the enhancements. Probably in 3 months when some of the issues are fixed in the new version that would be the way to go for the future of my leagues... |

I'm still playing OOTP5. I decided to skip OOTP6 as 5 was good enough for me. I plan on waiting for OOTP 2006 to age a bit first and for the price to be lowered before I pick it up. (I generally wait on new software before buying it, so I can buy good games at lower prices, even if it means waiting nearly a year.)

I still use 5 (I have 6, 6.5 and 2006) alot.
It's quicker then 6/6.5. It takes less time/work to setup & play then 2006. Since I mostly play around with historical, alot of the features in later versions are for fictional. I like the 'blank sheet of paper' with the potential of greatness not guarenteed, but with some historical patterns. I don't use financials since I rarely play past 1976. I mix real baseball towns with others (and don't worry bout the transportation nightmare it would be to have Havana & Mexico City in the league in 1930), and usually play with 2 leagues/2 divisions so i dont have to break them apart when i add more teams . Expansion (for me) is to add 4 teams in the 30's, and 4 teams in the 60's. Sometimes I add Negro League Players & Japanese players, and sometimes i dont.

IMO it doesn't get better then OOTP5. I am PISSED OFF on OOTP 2006 right now as they have REALLY dropped the ball so far. I hope it still turns out to be an awesome game, but they missed their chance to really impress me.
anyway, for those interested, a bunch of my old OOTP5 crew started up a league, but due to lack of interest in using outdated rosters(we used 2003 opening day rosters) we still have a few openings. Here is the link to our league page: http://www.thesportsfix.com/nsbl/ and here is the link to our forum: http://www.thesportsfix.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 No, we don't have a special website with nice graphics or anything, but this is as good as it gets for an OOTP5 league. We all have AIM, and if you're interested in a team post in the teams taken thread with which team you want. BTW, there are a couple co-commishes(myself included) and a coupole other guys that help outthe league so the league has the foundations to last for awhile. Also the league has a nice combination of experienced owners and others we have just now introduced to OOTP who are coming along nicely(the whitesox owner made it to the championship series in his first year) FYI we are in our second season(freaking dodgers won last season) u any questions please ask here or if you'd like to be quicker about it my IM is Alpha_Mai1 or my emial is th3.alpha.mail@gmail.com Hope to see you in the league! I know i keep missing a couple things, so here are a couple more tidbits about league: Coaches/Scouts are off(actually makes for a lot better game and offseason), we export rosters via FTP but if you are runnign on a MAC you can email your rosters and i can put them in for you(we have one owner doing this right now). We're using the really popular roster set that wasnt the total minors set(i can't remember which one it was off hand) also, sims are tues-thurs-sun one week at a time.. more info on the league is in various "stickied" posts such as league rules etc. My handle on that board is David Last edited by SSBL_reds; 06-26-2006 at 10:46 PM. |

The Longballer baseball league is still running OOTP 5, I've resisted the upgrade due to the havoc it causes on player ratings. http://www.longballer.com
We're in our 9th season now, its still a fairly active league and we're always interested in hearing people that are still using v5. I don't think v6 or 6.5 adds much to the online league experience, Rule V (which often doesn't produce much talent in OOTP due to thin minors), and waivers, which can (and often is) just replicated through the forums rather than in-game. If you'd like to join our league, PM me, and I'll find out which teams are open or close to open.

I have the new one, but I use the free version 5 since my PC can't handle the new one.

I'm also still playing OOTP5. It looks good, plays great, runs smoothly. I love the interface and the ease with which I can set up a league. I have a Philippine League, a Global League, an African League, a Turkish League, and a Summer League where the players include myself and various guys I went to school with 30 years ago.
I didn't like some of the graphics changes of OOTP6, and the addition of waivers and such adds complexity I don't need. When a game becomes like work, it's time to put it down. I'm interested in watching my leagues' histories unfold and studying the stats generated as a result. OOTP5 is more than fine. I love the "star" player ratings, I love everything about the game. The new version, the SI-published OOTP2006 or whatever it's called, is not for me. I don't like the interface. I don't like the look of the screen(s) when I play out games. SI tried to shoehorn OOTP baseball into their soccer game format, and to me it's ugly and just does not work. |

Same Here
OOTP5 is the best. It does everything I want (except add real rookies). I own OOTP6 as well, but prefer OOTP5.

I also still play OOTP5. I purchsed OOTP6 and 6.5, but couldn't quite get into either one. I much prefer the "old" ratings - don't care much for the newer ratings for both hitters and pitchers; likewise for the single endurance rating for pitchers.
Plus, I really like using Catobase.. |

You can play OOTP 6.5 with the "old ratings" but still enjoy many of the new features. Just select use the old ratings engine in the league setup section.

I just purchased OOTP2006, and cant stand the thing, If I could trade with some one that had version 6, I would !! If any one wants to trade their OOTP for my OOTP2006 let me know. I just dont like the new interface, and all the other new stuff. there is such a thing as information overload. I realize now I made the wrong purchase, and should have gotten ver6. I even sent email to SIGames, asking for a refund, I never got a reply. I dont know if I will spend any more money on OOTP.
Just my opinion Bob |

OOTP2006 is complete garbage. OOTP 6.51 is pure perfection. Enough said!

I still play OOTP 5. I'm waiting for most of the bugs in OOTP 2006 to be ironed out before I touch it again. I wanna get OOTP 6 and 6.5 though, but I don't have the money
