Scouts on, or off

So, are you going to be playing with scouting turned on, or off?

I was playing w/ scouts on until I found flaws in the system. Sometimes my best scout would see great ratings and sometimes nada. I would scout the organization, then when I scouted player cards stats were changing! (same scout, my BEST scout). Especially w/ out past stats when your league first starts your really just running yourself into the ground . When I turned the scouts off I noticed my team was the worst in the league by FAR. Also, one more thing, I think the "SISA" scouting system should be banned it does absolutely NOTHING for you. Scouts (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!) "off" for now, but I do like the hidden talent portion.

I really like the variety of tsks they can be assigned. It makes scouts much more interesting to use.

For now, I'm playing with them off. Initially this was just due it was easier to play while learning the interface and other new stuff. It became more enjoyable (this is pre-reading the guide/manual) with it off. I think eventually, once I'm comfortable with my team/league and I'm confident everything is set up correctly, I will turn them on at some point. I think once I get more familiar with the game it will add a new layer to the game.

I'm also curious to see what it will be like to have scouts off but coaches on.

i like them off and do want true ratings. i think the scouting system adds to the complexity of a game that has become too complex in too short a time.

I initially had them on, but since I play in commish mode for now, I hated the SISA scouting numbers, which is a commish's only option. So I recently turned them off, since I do take over a team from time-to-time to play out a game.

But then again, maybe it just seems normal to me from EHM/FM.

Well maybe you just had bad scouts. I imagine though that even the best scouts they are meant to make mistakes sometimes, just like real scouts sometimes do. A GM can't solely rely (in this game or in real life) on scouting reports but also has to rely on what the players actually do.

As for SISA it sounds like it's working as advertised. It's not supposed to do much for you and a person is crazy to rely on it. It's an organization that scouts all the leagues you've created at a go so obviously it will have errors. They do warn you about that ...

Off. I'm playing a baseball simulator, not a scout-management simulator.

I would love to turn them off, because handling scouts is too much busy work for my taste (like Exodor said, I'm here for a baseball simulator)...but, right now you can only see the "overall rating" with them on - which I hope gets fixed soon - so I'm going to have to live with them.

ditto. I would like to turn them off, but with the overall rating I just cant yet.

My best scout rated one of my pitchers (1-100) 90 stuff, 90 movement, and 73 control, but he only received an overall score of 40/80. For his short career he is 19-8 in 41 starts with an era of 2.21 (best in the league so far).

So far I've played with scouts on. But I'm seriously considering turning them off for awhile. I need to learn the new interface and how the game itself works before adding the complexity of managing (and adjusting for the flaws of) my scouts.

I love the idea of scouts. I prefer having a slightly flawed view of my own baseball universe because it increases the challenge.

But at this point, the challenge is great enough without adding the complexity of managing and assigning my scouts.

I hope eventually someone will write a "best practices scout management" guide/list, in which is detailed ideas on how to best manage and assign duties to scouts, e.g., how often should you scout your own team? other teams in your division? minor leagues? foreign countries? how to best scout for prospects when in rebuilding mode? Etc, etc.

Right now, trying to figure all that out (together with adjusting to the new game) seems like a little too much.

I love the idea of scouts. I want to play with scouts. I just can't figure out everything else that's new (including how to use scouts by trial and error) at once.

Scouts are on, ratings 2-8. I repeatedly scout my own organization. It would be nice to see some more scout automation. Your head scout will automatically do some work on your own team, but it would be nice to choose other scouts to have automated tasks, especially advance scouting for upcoming series, and repeatable tasks.

Same thing for me. I had been experiemtning with them on, then decided to turn them off and see how the team looked. Oh, how was I wrong! Might be less of a problem in historical leagues when you know the stars talent and only have to rate the fewer fictional players from the minors.

FYI my head scout was an 16 20 18, so his scouting should not of been that far off.

I haven't gotten in depth yet but so far the scouts seem too micro managerish and cumbersome. If the scouting staff had specific task slots like a pitching rotation screen, I'd be more interested. Something like having a slot for scouting your own organization, scouting your division, scouting your league, scouting the majors, scouting the minors, quick scouting your next opponent, search for 3rd world talent, etc. Then you could prioritize still but have your guys out there working without having to tell them everything to do constantly.

I like randomness to drafting. However, when it is basically a crap shoot every year I don't see how you can build a solid team. I am playing with them off. I like to 6.5 draft system and ratings better.
