Handful of pitchers giving up way too many triples
Historical career league, mid 1940's now, using 6.12 or whatever the latest non 6.5 version is. There are a handful of pitchers, 3 on my team, that are giving up WAY too many triples. The last couple years my team has averaged giving up roughly 1/7 of all triples in the league.
I think one pitcher on my team gave up 58 triples last year and another guy gave up 40 or so. They are allowing 2-3 times as many triples as doubles. The league totals for triples are fine, they are just all given up by a handful of guys. And they aren't all on my team, so it doesn't look like it is a team specific problem. No ballpark effects either, so that isn't it. Has anybody else noticed anything like this? Any ideas on what, if anything, I can do to fix this? It is making pitchers who have otherwise good/great abilities into no better than average pitchers because they are giving up 2 triples a game. |

I noticed this with Walter Johnson in 6.5 after I was the victim of the same player on 2 teams from the All-Star game bug. The following 2 years, he gave up 99 doubles and 60 triples, but I was still able to keep him to a respectable ERA under 4. After I traded him, he eventually went back to normal a season or 2 later.
