free agent/player history strangeness

just noticed this:

i started my league in 1994, lahman import. paul o'neill signed a 1 year deal 3/24/94 with san luis potosi for $6 mil. no big deal. he becomes a free agent on 9/8/94 and the next day signs a $8.79 mil contract with a major league team, with a month to go in the season. on 11/15/94 he becomes a free agent again and signs a 5 yr deal worth $86 mil (!) with the Cubs.

one important thing to know is that the mexican league (i used the default OOTP one) ends its schedule on 7/30. so o'neill finished there (and won a championship no less), signed with Texas on 9/9 for $8 mil to play 15 games (and picking up a player of the week award) only to sign his third contract within 9 months on 11/15, with the hapless Cubs.

wow.

i dont know the financial dealings well enough to know if this would even be allowed in real MLB...so, not a bug necessarily, but just some twisted logic
