This is the first time since probably '97 (whatever year it was that the B's didn't make it) that I didn't pay attention to the NHL playoffs and that makes me sad.

Yea I know... I actually was into hockey this year even after the strike because I really enjoyed the new style of play. However when the B's shipped off Thornton, I was pretty much as disgusted as much as I've ever been with a sports team and couldn't stomach watching for a while - minus the game in January that I had tickets for.

I might catch a few games to root for Sammy on the Oilers though.

Yeah, I can imagine it was quite a blow when Thornton was dealt...

Yea, it was big, and it was also kind of a "final straw" type of deal. This organization has been a trainwreck from the top down since the days of Neely, Bourque, Oates, and Moog ended. I noticed they hired a new GM the other day... I'm going to make a concerted effort to do my research so I can get back into the sport, because it was once my favorite along with baseball.

In picking winners, I'm an impressive 0-for-6 after the first round of play-offs, so I'm going to give Canada the kiss of death and say it's Edmonton in 5 tightly-contested games. I pick the Oilers for one reason: during the years I've followed the NHL, I don't think there's been a single Cup-winning team that has given starts to more than one goalie in the play-offs.

Furthermore, I predict that Roloson will shine in a couple of games, and that'll be enough to give him the Conn Smythe over Pronger.

At least, I can never wrap my head around the idea of guys on skates and ice playing in June.

I picked the Canes months ago and I'm sticking to it! (I also picked Detroit from the West but we'll just forget about that...)

It would be pretty ironic that the first celebrated champion of "The New NHL (c)" would be a team that traps ruthlessly like Edmonton.

Edmonton traps axs much as the 1990's Devils play wide open hockey.

It would be better if it were a team that scores 75% of its goals crowding the front of the opposite net?

Anyway, I'd be surprised if the Oilers won.

I don't think the trap is necessarily bad and evil, but Edmonton got out of the first round of the playoffs on it and that's a fact.

I picked Carolina and Anaheim to meet in the SCF at the end of the regular season and Carolina to win. I was THAT close to being right.

Well the Hurricanes sure have made a habit of it, endangering Koivu's carrer and almost beheading Brière in the process.

I'm just saying, they're not perfect either .
