Waivers not working properly.

I put a guy from AA on waivers because I couldn't figure out how to release him outright at first (found that under action in the player profile later), but it didn't remove him from the AA roster.

Apparently only sending him to DFA does that.

You really shouldn't have to pull a guy off your roster to waive him, and I actually am happy that that's been fixed.

Personally, not knowing much about transactions, I'd be curious to hear from others about which is the "correct" way for this to work...

I think it's working correctly. Only after he clears would you pull him off a roster.

Just placing a player on waivers, per ce, doesn't mean that they're necessarily off the roster. So called "Major League Waivers" (the waivers generally used after the trade deadline to make players eligible to be traded) are done just to put the player on the waiver wire and not to remove them off the roster, otherwise major league teams would be missing a lot of players in August.

As a general rule, waivers are usually a result of another action instead of causing an action. In order to remove a player from a secondary/40 man roster, a player must clear waivers. In addition, a player out of option years has to clear waivers before being assigned to the minor league team. In both cases, the team isn't waiving the player in order to make the transaction, the team is making the transaction, and one of the steps of the transaction would be to place the player on waivers.

So if you're asking for an outright release of a player (like you were trying to do) what would happen from a MLB standpoint is you would go for the outright release, the player would be DFA'd and placed on waivers, and if he didn't get claimed, he'd then finally get released.

So the waivers are working fine - at least in that example.

for those interested in what the CBA says:

Quote:
F. Waivers

Any assignment of a Player contract must conform to the rules regarding waivers contained in Major League Rule 10. In addition, each Friday, not later than 3 P.M. E.D.T., the Office of the Commissioner shall notify the Association, by facsimile transmission, of all waiver requests and their disposition. Notification shall include:

(1) the date on which the waiver request was made;
(2) the date of expiration of the waiver period;
(3) if the waiver period has expired, whether or not claims were filed;
(4) if claims are not filed, the period for which waivers have been granted; and
(5) if claims were filed, whether or not the Club requesting waivers has withdrawn its request. In the event claims were filed and the Club requesting waivers has withdrawn its request, the Office of the Commissioner need not identify the claiming Club or Clubs.

G. Designated Player

A Player who is in the status of a “designated player” under Major League Rule 2(k) shall, during the period he is in such status, be

(1) paid at the rate of his Major League salary and
(2) credited with Major League service.

A Club that desires to unconditionally release a Player who is in the status of a “designated player” under Major League Rule 2(k) shall request the necessary waivers by 2 P.M. on the eighth day following such designation; provided, however, that if the eighth day falls on a non-business day, the Club shall request such waivers not later than 2 P.M. on the next business day.

H. Unconditional Release

Notwithstanding the provisions of Major League Rule 8 and paragraph 7(d) of the Uniform Player’s Contract, the following procedure may be used to give notice to a Player in connection with his unconditional release.

At the same time the Club advises a Player in writing that the Club has requested waivers for the purpose of unconditional release, and the date on which the waiver request will expire, the Player shall advise the Club in writing of the address and telephone number to which the Club should telephone or telegraph notice of termination to the Player upon the expiration of the waiver period. If the Player fails to supply a telephone number or address, the Club may use the most recent address or telephone number the Player has supplied the Club.

Upon the expiration of the waiver period, the Club shall either give notice to the Player by telephone or by sending a telegraph notice of termination to the Player. In addition, the Player may make a collect telephone call to the Club to determine whether his contract has been claimed.

When you're in reply or post new thread mode, scroll down a bit.

You should see a button labeled "Manage attachments." Above that, it shows all of the valid file extensions you can attach to your post. There's a 100 kb size limit, but as long as your picture is smaller than the size limit and fits the valid image extensions, you can upload it to the server, and it will be embedded in your post.
