The Grand Slam that shouldn't have been....
Guy walks, then a single, then another single... bases loaded.
Next guy grounds into a double play, 1-2-3. Next guy strikes out. Next guy hits a game winning grand slam..... hmm..... ![]() In fact... the guy that hit it should never have come up.... Bottom of the 10th - Tampa Bay Hunchbacks batting - Pitching for Kansas City Tsunami : RHP R. Brawner Pitching: RHP S. Cismeros Now at SS: M. MacGugan Batting: RHB M. Gentile 0-0: Ball 1-0: Ball 2-0: Ball 3-0: Base on Balls Pitching: RHP J. Funk Batting: LHB L. Were 0-0: Ball 1-0: SINGLE (Line Drive, 4M) M. Gentile to second Batting: SHB R. LaBrie 0-0: Ball 1-0: Foul Ball 1-1: Foul Ball 1-2: Ball 2-2: Ball 3-2: SINGLE (Groundball, 6D) M. Gentile to third L. Were to second Batting: LHB J. Gatan 0-0: Grounds into double-play, 1-2-3 (Groundball, 13) L. Were to third R. LaBrie to second Batting: LHB M. Crone 0-0: Foul Ball 0-1: Foul Ball 0-2: Strikes out swinging Batting: RHB O. Stuck 0-0: Ball 1-0: Foul Ball 1-1: GRAND SLAM HOME RUN (Flyball, 7D), Distance : 385 ft The box score shows the guy grounding into the double play as scoring. It doesn't show Funk (the pitcher that would have been involved in that double play) as having been involved in a double play (in the Fielding section of box score). Obviously the game itself saw a ground out 1-2 while the box score and game log report a GIDP 1-2-3. You'd know that something weird would happen in the first game I actually looked at. |
