OOTP2006 and Wine

For those of you disappointed that there's not a Linux version of OOTP this time around:

I'm pleased to report that it runs *beautifully* under Wine. I'm actually running it on a system that's below the nominal "minimal" spec -- 833 MHz and 192 MB memory -- and haven't yet had a problem after almost two days of hard playing.

For the record, I'm using the last beta of Ubuntu 6.06 (actually, the release of that happened today, but I haven't done the last upgrades), with Wine version 0.9.9-0ubuntu2.

I'm actually quite happy about this, because I was never able to get WWSM to run with Wine, so this is totally a bonus for me.

I suggest a good white, especially with seafood.

Maybe MD will stop whining about it now.

Yeah, right.

White wine is what men drink when the red is gone.

Cool, maybe I'll break out the Ubuntu box. It's gone into a reserve position since I bought a new computer a few weeks back.

FWIW, you know invented beer? Egyptians. You know who drank wine? Greeks. You know what the Greeks did? Conquered Egypt.

You don't know what you're missing. White wine is the perfect starter. Red wine is a better finisher.

Anything without the words "Samuel Adams" on it is swill.

I just got Ubuntu 6.06 installed today and it was a snap. Much easier than 5.10 was considering I have an ATI video card. At any rate, I'm planning on trying out OOTP2006 and WINE soon. Maybe I'll be able to ditch Windows all together.

Ah, you didn't have the liter (they only allow you to purchase in liter or half liter sizes, but real men get the regular size of course) of Hofbrauhaus Dunkel I did at dinner last night. Munich's favorite beer would change your tune.

I've got the demo running great under wine, but I haven't licensed it yet because I'm concerned about the ability to unlicense - which I would want to do if I ever switch linux distributions or anything. Has anyone tried to unlicense OOTP2006 under wine, and if so, were there any problems?

Well, I went ahead and licensed it and figured I'll cross the un-license bridge when I come to it. After playing around with it last night, the most amazing thing I found about running the program under wine was that it sims a lot faster than running it in Windows on the exact same computer.

From MD's signature, via members list:
My new house has no Internet connection yet! Get OOTP2006 fixed, guys!

So presumably he will be back in time.

How can someone with that much to say, with that much enjoyment of debating on this board be gone? He'll be back.
