Bug: Trade Offer
If you go to discuss trade offer and then hit the back button, the trade offer will expire without you accepting or declining.

I need to take a closer look at this and see exactly what happens. I was just playing around earlier.

I'm getting trade proposal messages that pop up, and already say 'this trade offer has expired'...

Trades Expire Too Fast?
I received a trade offer, clicked through to the "Discuss Trade" screen. Looked it over, and left the screen. Went back to my messages and, without having simmed any days, am now told that the offer has expired. Is this right?

Also curious if this is a bug or just the way it is. It could be that when you "discuss the trade", you're basically saying to the guy "I don't like this offer the way it is - let's modify it and I'll give you a counter offer." So that may be why the initial offer has "expired" because you indirectly "rejected" it when you asked to discuss it.
That's the way I justified it in my head. If that's not the intention, then I guess it is a bug. |

Patch...as for screen shots, I'll try to remember to take one next time and post it here. I'll also play with the trade offer some to see exactly what behaviors aside from the one I described will reproduce this. |

I get it all the time as well and use the term discuss, to see if i can build onto the deal or squeeze something else out of them.

Yeah, I see this all the time also - going to the Discuss Trade option, which takes you to the Player Trade screen, then if you go to other screens and eventually back to your in-box, the trade is "expired" - however, if you use the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen to go back, I've found you can always go back to the Player Trade screen, set up the way you left it - so you can get back to the trade, but not through your inbox (and a pet peeve of mine is why, when a trade expires, does the actual trade proposal disappear? I would love to have a record of trade propsals to look back through - sounds easy enough to me to disable the Action button for trades which have expired).

Anyone with screen shots would be appreciated. They are very helpful to point out obvious errors.

I still think this might not be a bug. It just might be that DISCUSSING the trade effectively rejects the offer in your Inbox, which is why it says it's expired. |

Here are the screenies - and this is with the patch. First screen shows the e-mail offer on 3/4/96, second screen shows me clicking "Discuss trade", third screen shows me discussing the trade (as an aside, I love how the GM who OFFERED me the deal is now saying "OK, I have to think about this" before I've even modified his original deal - bit of a disconnect there), and fourth screen shows me returning to my e-mail (still on 3/4/96) to see that the offer has expired.
Again, I just think this is a result of "Discuss trade" effectively rejecting the initial e-mail offer. It's not 100% intuitive, but I think that's what's going on. Although if that was the intention, it doesn't make sense that you can still get back to the original e-mail offer by hitting the back button after discussing a trade. If it was meant to expire when you discuss, it should expire both when you go to your e-mail directly again AND when you hit the back button. Otherwise it's just confusing. So I guess first SI needs to figure out how they want this to work, and then they can figure out which part they need to fix. Personally, I don't think the e-mail offer should expire when you go to discuss. You might want to go to the discuss screen just so you can do due dilligence and more easily compare what the other team is offering you. And even after that comparison, you might still want to come back later after giving it a few days of thought. I think you should be able to do that. The way it is now, you basically have to stay at the "Discuss trade" screen until you've made a decision, or you've lost that trade offer. How do others think this should work? |

Just FYI, this is TT # 1486, and Markus has claimed that it will be fixed in the next patch.
Thanks! |
