Post Why Markus Rules - the patch policy elsewhere

This was posted at:

<a href="http://pub38.ezboard.com/ftheclubhousegeneralhighheatbaseballdiscussion.sho wMessage?topicID=28777.topic" target="_blank">http://pub38.ezboard.com/ftheclubhousegeneralhighheatbaseballdiscussion.sho wMessage?topicID=28777.topic</a>

Mike Saperstein: "Certainly High Heat will consider patches in cases where the game is unplayable due to a bug. But honestly, patches are a no-win proposition for us. Users always want the patch immediately, and complain until it comes out. And different users will want different small issues fixed, and they can’t all make the patch, so when the patch comes out many will complain about why their fix didn’t make it. And any item that patches a problem can inadvertently break something else under different circumstances – like last year’s problem with patching mound visits (which, by the way, actually fixed a crash in online games regarding mound visits).

So while High Heat may release patches in the future for the PC, my guess is that they would only tend to address problems that make the game unplayable. On consoles, bugs of that magnitude generally need to be fixed prior to the game’s initial release, and on PC they should be as well."

Ahem. Now, all together, say "Thank you, Markus."

Thumbs up

That's the main reason I decided not to buy High Heat this year. The customer service we receive from Markus and Steve is simply amazing. As long as he continues to make games I'll be first in line to order them.

Reading that made me realize again how good Markus and the team really is. Thank you again, Markus. Yes, I've done a lot of kissing up the last two days

I set Markus next to a plant that I keep in my closet (NOT POT) and it grew quite well. He is radiant like the sun.

To the poster who asked what "High Heat" is: the sensation you experience when you encounter one of the hundreds of fun-kiling bugs in a certain high-profile arcade-style baseball game.

Ooo-rah to Markus! Can't wait to put the patch on and get the new database.

I bought HH2k3 this year (like clockwork), installed it, and sobbed madly when it kept crashing while trying to import my HH2K2 season. Unintalled it, then re-installed it. Same thing. Other than that minor glitch *snicker*, I haven't had any problems.

I will give them some credit, the graphics do look quite a bit better in this version. I haven't found any more depth to the game, though -- and that's what I was really looking for.

I keep it on my computer for when I feel like being a "Nintendo" manager (e.g. actually swinging the bat), but my addiction to simulated baseball has been replaced by Markus and the gang.

Even though my wife curses you for feeding my addicition, I love you guys!

When I feel like playing kiddie arcade baseball, I bring out the Original NES and put in Bases Loaded II : The Second Season... By FAR the best arcade baseball game ever made IMHO

Gotta disagree with you there, Baseball Stars for NES is the best console baseball game ever.

Wow! I can't believe the attitude of the HH developer.

As for all-time best arcade baseball--can't beat Baseball Stars on the NES!

I was a short term fan of the High Heat Series. However, the fact is, that the mind's eye is much better than what 3DO's artists can draw. That's why I have given up on glittzy graphics of square jawed cartoon characters and I am sticking with the text based gems like OOTP.

Also it looks like this year's version of HH is a total ripoff for those who bought it last year. Games Domain (which I trust for objective reviews) says

" If you're one of those people who's still writing last year's date on your checks, High Heat Major League Baseball 2003 is the game for you. The same vapor lock in the frontal lobes that causes you to write 2001 instead of 2002 seems to be in evidence with developer 3DO. That could be the only explanation for why the company has just released a new addition to the High Heat series that looks and plays almost exactly like the new addition to the High Heat series of a year ago."

You can read the review at:

bigphesta, are you my soulmate??

WHY does nobody give Bases Loaded II the props it deserves? The game was (and still is) fantastic.
