So that's where God has been hiding...Philadelphia! I just hope he treads lightly. If they booed Santa in that town, there's no telling what kind of reception the almighty will receive.

As I discussed in the Buffalo thread, the "Santa" incident was construed by the media.

Santa was never booed nor were snowballs thrown at him.

The short version is that the current regime of ownership, coaching, etc. had totally dismantled what was a pretty damn good football team. They traded a HOF QB for garbage and made a bunch of other typical Philadelphia front office moves. The snowballs and boos were actually intended for the Owner and the Coach.

I'm sure that doesn't make it any better but I just find it funny how almost 40 years later the Media can't let this incident go when in Cleveland people were throwing full beer bottles at the Refs. Not to mention people on the field being attacked TWICE at White Sox games, Wally Joyner getting a 5inch blade thrown at him and hitting him, etc.

To add some more light on the situation, the real "Santa" couldn't make it that day due to the snow storm. So they pulled out some shlep from the stands in a cheap santa outfit, that looked more like red pajamas, to go out at halftime as Santa. A cheap Santa, a smowstorm, and a terrible football team, lead to the infamous snowball incident. Ledgend has it that it all started as a dare, when, a then lawyer, dared someone in the stands, that he couldn't hit Santa with a snowball. The lawyer is now PA Govenor Ed Rendell. I can't verify that Rendell did start it, but that is the folklore.

Yep, there are all kinds of myths surrounding that incident. 2 of my family members were there in the middle of it all and have sworn people were trying to hit the coach.

I guess I just don't understand why this event is brought up so much by the media when much worse things have happened all over the place. Atleast they didn't put coins inside the snowballs like Wisconsin fans did when they put them inside marshmellows and were throwing them at opposing players.

Because everyone loves to pile on Philly fans. And some fans cherrish the bad boy image that Philly fans have. The reputation has been well earned, but the media and other fans can't let go of it. All I can say is that no players or coaches were ever physically attacked at one of our stadiums as is the case in some other cities. Probably the most harmful thing was when some 'fans' threw batteries at JD Drew. Which even though I know it was wrong, I still enjoyed it quite a bit at the time
