OOTP Redemption

I've been away from OOTP for about a year and a half despite my intense love for the game. My old computer just had too many problems when trying to run OOTP5 and when it finally crashed so hard that I lost 2 years worth of statistical data (I play out every game, so 2 years is awhile for me), I gave up and moved on. Well, school's out and summer vacation stars today, so I've been itching for a good baseball game to waste my time on. I tried playing APBA for awhile, if any of you old timers are so acquainted, but it really got me yearning for the wide range of control that OOTP lays at your finger tips.

So, I have a few questions if some of you gents would be kind enough to embellish.

-What is the best season installer out there? I see the one at the top of the thread list and if that is indeed the best, what do the roster sizes look like? I'm really trying to find one with the biggest minor league system possible.
-Are there actual playing field installers out there still?
-Also, it would appear that the creators took a few years off in producing a new version?

Mucho gracias

What version are you running? 5 or 6?

And yeah, there was no new release last year (except for an expansion pack for v. 6) but the next version is out at the end of the month.

I'm not currently running any version. I'm awaiting the release of Version 6.

Oh okay...OOTP 2006.

Well, in that case, I regret to inform you that there are, as of yet, no season installers or playing field installers for that version.

Am I mistaken to assume that eriqjaffe's "MLB 2005 All-In-One Installer", as featured on the discussions board, is for 6?

Yeah it's for 6, but v6 was released two years ago, so when you said you were "awaiting the release" I thought you were referring to the new version.

They stopped with the numbering for the new version. So instead of v7 it is refered to as the 2006 version: OOTPBaseball 2006

Ahhh, I see my mistake now. I am thinking V.6=OOTP 6.

Confusion understood. V6 release 2004, v6.5 in 2005, 2006 in 20 days.

Confused me for a while, too ...

When I download the free edition of V6, that does not include the 6.5 patch, correct?

The free version is V5, released 2003, and includes the last patch for that version.

v6 is not free...v5 is free.

v6 = $19.99
v6.5 = $9.95 and requires that you have a valid v6 licence already installed

Let me just try and get this straight. I think I'm making this too hard on myself...

OOTP5 (V5) was released in 2003
V6 released in 2004
6.5 released in 2005
V7 to be released soon

My question still remaining from this is what connection does V6 have to OOTP5? Is it just an improved version?

OOTP6 is the version of OOTP that came out one year after OOTP5. There is no connection other than that really. You don't need one to be able to play the other or anything like that.

EDIT: And the upcoming version is referred to as OOTPBB 2006, not v7. OOTP 2006 does NOT equal OOTP6

I understand clearly now. Thanks.

I really can't stand playing this game with generically named players. When do you guys anticipate the first season installer coming out for 2006?

Interesting, I can't stand playing this game with current MLB players. Fictional leagues all the way!

Fictional names are the way to go for a challenge. That way you don't carry your real life prejudice into the game.

Plus is just bugs me when I play games like MLB 2k6 on the 360 and see the Orioles have Soriano. I am not sure why.

My beef with fictional names is that I am quick to lose track of who is who. With MLB players, there is that sense of recognition.

That is a good point. I do sometimes forget players.

I have no idea, but as someone who wants real players as well, I will start a historical league in 2005 and just do a Lahman import.
If you sim one year, Bob's your uncle.

I will play that for a couple of weeks to learn the game etc, until the first rosters sets come out and then, we're away.

I think, nay hope, that will work!

I'm really interested in starting up a season with the 2006 rosters. Plus, I don't want to buy V6 and 2006, so I'm going to wait.
