I remember reading that the game will be supported up to 1600x1200.
Is there any possible way to support widescreen resolutions?
Perhaps up to 1920x1200?
Also is the aspect ratio user set? Being able to set it to 16:9 and 16:10 would be very very nice.

Many new notebooks and LCDs are going widescreen and it would be nice if OOTP (and all SI games) got in early on the trend of supporting these new screen sizes without weird aspect stretching.

Would this require a total art rewrite or be something fairly simple?

Please consider this: you have no idea how silly it looks playing Tiger Woods with golf balls that are not round....

Support for 1680x1050 would also make this game a gem. :P

All resolutions starting at 1024*768 are supported, no matter what the dimensions are And the good thing is, the font is not stretched, so you have more space for info on the screen!

Well, supported does not mean "enhanced for". Take FM, which I'm sure you've played - it supports widescreen, but it doesn't stretch to the width of the screen. It was the same for previous versions. Not that I wouldn't like a widescreen mode, but other SI titles are not enhanced for widescreen.

I have a question for those getting these pricy screens.

I have next to zero technlogical knowledge, but wouldn't it be more simple and less costly to plug your computer in your TV? I think I remember FJ saying he had a nice TV screen.

Will it be like FM where at 1028x1024 you have to run it in a window or it defaults back to 1024x768?

TVs go up to a max of 1366x768 (mine goes to 1280x760)

PC monitors go up to 1920x1200 which is a much higher ceiling.

You can run your PC on a TV and I have done that to my LCD TV
The results were ok but nothing I would want to use for gaming or internet browsing.
PC monitors offer much higher screen resolutions which is why they are much more expensive given their realtive screen sizes.

These monster screens by Dell are going to put pressure on TV makers to offer higher resolutions.
Of course those will not mean much until there is support for HDTV programming higher than 1080p

Hope that answers your question.
While a nice large TV can be used as a PC display a true PC monitor is still superior for games and everyday tasks.

FJ is correct. Our 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV, which you can also use as a monitor, maxes at 1366 x 768 resolution. The 30" Dell 3007WFP, on the other hand, has 2560 x 1600 resolution with an ATI V7100 video card (and the card's documentation says it will drive a monitor all the way up to 3840 x 2400!).

One of the things that you have to pay attention to on LCD screens is their response time. If the LCD doesn't have a response time of around 10ms or less (8ms or less is better), it's not really all that suitable for gaming, and the 3007WFP only has an 11ms response time, which is okay but not great.
