Proper names with countries they are born from

I'm a bit tired so please forgive my title which probably made no sense but here goes;

Most likley I will only be doing an American (US) League with all minors attached. In OOTP6 I had to use the origin utility for naames and places of birth in order to get mostly amercian names. Will OOTPBBM2006 have the ablity to have the proper names to be used within their countires? I do not want to see "Jai Hung" type names a lot in my US league (which will be based on the MLB format but will be fictional). Once in a while is OK but not all the time. Last names such as Gomez, ect are fine because there are mexican/latin americans. So will OOTPBBM2006 be able to make this happen?

Ive not been around much so please forgive my question(s) if already asked. I did do searches but my searches did not come up with the answer I was looking for.

Thanks.

Thanks. I should go back and read all these blogs. Sounds like I missed a lot.

With the new name sets does this mean we won't need files from MD?

Yes and no. MD's name set files will be included with the new game. (U.S., Japanese, Hispanic, and U.S. historical)

If that's good by you, you lucked out. If that makes you unhappy for some reason, you'll still be able to customize it yourself!

I just read the blog and I think the interesting question is whether we can break down names by ETHNICITY, or just by country.

I see there's a U.S. Names database, but using that wouldn't prevent us from having players with weird names like "Jae Woo Jackson" or "Alistair Ng Jr.". We need to be able to match first and last names in a realistic way.

I've got a hunch that you needn't worry too much.

By the way, if you want to see what the three main name file sets will look like in OOTP2006 then download and start using the name file set in my .sig, as it's the same name set formatted for use in OOTP6.

I know such names don't occur often in real life, but they do happen occasionally. I, for one, hope such a name would be possible, just very rare.

Speaking as the names guru, eradicating names like that is a major part of my mission.

Every fictional name needs to be consistent and credible, much more so than in real life.

Life can afford to be unbelievable, but fiction cannot.

OakDragon,

Because there really isn't a good way to generate "freak" names like Coco Crisp on a reasonable frequency, we made a decision to go with "normal" names in this version of the game.

Of course, you can always customize the names files to your heart's content!

Sorry about that...

Sorry if this has been covered, but are the nicknames still in. I kinda like 'em. No real point, but they're fun.

Steve, did you talk Markus into using the improved nickname file in the Replacement Name File Set yet?
