Yzerman ties Lemieux on All-time goals list
Steve Yzerman tied Mario Lemieux tonight by scoring his 690th career goal.
I don't like the Red Wings at all but this guy is all class...... "I don't really know the significance," Yzerman said. "If anything, it shows how good Lemieux is; he played almost five years less than I did." |

The best way I can sum up Steve Yzerman as a player is this: He holds the record for most points in a season by a player not named Gretzky or Lemieux... and he finished third in points that season, behind Gretzky and Lemieux. He's a great player, an obvious HOFer, but the stats are pumped up by some of those years in the '80s. He was really more impressive in the '90s when he turned himself into an excellent two-way center. All in all, one of the classiest superstars ever. I'm glad I got to grow up watching him, Alan Trammell, and Joe Dumars.

I've had the chance to meet him on a couple of occasions, and he struck me as being a good guy, kind of what you'd expect from watching him play or talking during an interview.
I agree that he's not as great a player as Lemieux, but he's the kind of athlete you hope your kids will admire. |

Team Canada missed having a guy like him on the Olympic team.

He was talented and seemed very classy. I'm glad no one was idiotic enough to claim that he was better than Lemieux, but Yzerman is definitely one of the twenty best players ever to play in the NHL - perhaps even in the top 10.
