Bye bye Burnett? "General Elbow Pain" is usually a bad thing for a pitcher.

they'd both be just as useful.

Good job guys, overpaying for a pitcher that seems to be as brittle as glass.

Dare I mention bullet-proof glass?

No, no... Burnett is a FANTASTIC signing. Look for Toronto to compete for the AL East this year with high profile expensive but not really very good free agents AJ Burnett and BJ Ryan.

No, why would I?

(I think Beane might though. I wonder who Toronto has that we could use for Juan Cruz...)

Im a closet Blue Jays fan...behind the teams I more prominently like...and I like that theyre making a run, but they definitely overpaid for Burnett and this just proves it.

No, it just makes paying so much money REALLY SUCK.

Proving that it was a bad signing would have been when Burnett came to the AL and put up a 4.80 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.

No serious damage, according to the MRI.

And as far as overpaying .. OF COURSE they did! They had to overpay these guys just to try to get them to come here. It was a gamble the Jays had to take or else they'll never ever make the postseason.

And it's not like we were the only ones ready to overpay for him.

Didn't the Cardinals offer him a 4 year, $48 million deal?

We overpaid sure, but IF he's healthy he could be the reliable #2 that we haven't had in a while.

With no risk you get no potential return.

Exactly. As a Blue Jays fan, I am willing to give JP a pass on the offseason's activities and judge it over time. Given the choice of JP being Bill Beane Jr. and fielding a team with no hope of going beyond third place or trying to field a team that possibly could make the post season against the New York and Boston behemoths by overpaying slightly, I will choose the latter any day.

Exactly, if they did not overpay they wouldn't have got Burnett or Ryan. They have caught the Yanks and Sox at a weak point. Although the Yanks will probably end up taking the AL East, the Jays still have a shot at hnaging around with the Sox this season.

Say it that way, and I agree.

Gotta love quoting out of context.

Agreed 100%. Overpaying for a chance to make the playoffs beats being happy with our default third-place finish. That may be where we end up again, but at least we're trying to compete in a killer division.
