A House Divided - Choose Your Side

The "A House Divided" dynasty, which deals with baseball in a world where the South won the Civil War, will be taking player sign-ups.

Without giving away too much, the baseball universe in AHD will develop into the following by 1906:

US - 2 Leagues, Federal (East & Midwest) and Pacific (along the West Coast). The player pool for these leagues will be completely historical - MLB players born in states in the US in this universe, and the best of the Negro Leaguers.

CS - 2 Leagues, Dixie (the traditional CS states) and Caribbean (teams in Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican and Mexico). The player pool for these leagues will be: historical MLB players born in CSA states/territories in this universe and FICTIONAL players created by board members, with possibly some sim created players as well.

There are going to be a few US-only seasons (1902-05) before the Confederates get their acts together and form a league, so there will be time for signups. I hope to devise a methodology similar to what Pete is using for the Plague dynasty.

I will reply to this thread with more info as soon as I figure out how I want the player creation to work.

I am very interested in creating a player for this dynasty.

Great job with the write-ups so far, I've been checking the board every hour to make sure I don't miss one.

Well, since you're the resident expert on these things, what parameters would you recommend for the creation scheme?

If Pete has no objection, maybe his Plague parameters would be good for the House Divided?

Pete - if that's not okay, please let me know.

That's fine with me. If you want to tweak it, just bump up the points allowed, or you can check out the creation guidelines I used for my 20th Century Baseball Chronicle which PLAGUE! is based on.

Player Creation Technique

With many, many thanks to Pete (aka Metsgeek) who has so kindly allowed me to use his player creation template, below is the creation technique for those who wish to create fictional players for "A House Divided"

There are three "types" of players you may create:

1) a player for the U.S. based leagues (Federal and Pacific)
2) a player for the C.S. based "Dixie" league (which is segregated)
3) a player for the C.S. based "Caribbean" league (which is also segregated, and uses players who would have been Negro Leaguers in the historical timeline).

Anyone creating players for the U.S. league will have $500 for batters and $400 for pitchers.

Anyone creating players for the Dixie league will have $400 for batters and $350 for pitchers in seasons prior to 1920 (this simulates the slower development of baseball in the Confederacy).

Anyone creating players for the Caribbean league will have $450 for batters and $375 for pitchers in seasons prior to 1920 (this also simulates the slower growth of Latin baseball due to the different historical circumstances).

Beginning with 1921 created players will all have the same amount of starting money.

In addition, there are limits on the number of fictional players created:

In the U.S. leagues, no more than 1 per league (that'd be 2 total) for each season, starting with 1904.

In the C.S. leagues, each poster can create five players for 1906. Once we see how many players we get, that will be adjusted for future seasons. The initial player pool for the Dixie league is small, and for the Caribbean league it is tiny.

I hate to say this but: give the names a realistic feel (especially players created for the Caribbean league - they should be Latino in 95% of the cases), and please nothing off-color or ridiculous.

So, without further ado, here's the routine (and again big, big thanks to Pete):

Code:
Federal and Pacific League 1904 and on: Batters - $500 Pitchers - $400
Dixie League 1906 to 1920: Batters - $400 Pitchers - $350
Caribbean League 1906 to 1920: Batters - $450 Pitchers - $375

All players 1921 and on: Batters - $500 Pitchers - $400

Hometown: each player needs a hometown, state and country (usually CSA or USA, but could be Canada, Mexico or Venezuela as well):
for the Federal and Pacific Leagues, the states are any US state not listed with the CSA (see below) plus Canada.
for the Dixie League the CSA states are: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
for the Caribbean league the states are: Sonora and Chihuahua, Dominica, Cuba, Puerto Rico (all are CS states, so country is CSA), plus Mexico and Venezuela.

I know what i'll be doing tonight when I get home from work

Quick question....any actual Negro League player will be created by you, right? So, no Torriente, Poles, or Charleston for me, I assume

Yep - the historical Negro Leaguers (the big names anyway) will be in either the U.S. Leagues or the Caribbean league, so everyone should get creative and conceive their own "Negro Leaguers"...

Oh, and keep in mind that the Dixie and Caribbean leagues won't start til 1906, but you can create U.S. players (one per poster) for the upcoming 1904 season.

I'm about to churn out a few players, but before I do, I wanted to clarify a few things. It looks like you're using the original player creation guidelines, rather than the PLAGUE version (which results in weaker players, but has the potential for higher initial ratings).

Since you don't mention ratings, I'm assuming that we'll be using the ones generated by computer and adjusting them as I did in 20CBC. I'll post them here:
Quote:
In addition, the AI will generate your starting ratings, which will be adjusted according to the age that your player debuts as of draft day:
Code:
AGE RATING BONUS

17	-5
18	+0
19	+10
20	+15
21	+20
22	+25
23	+30
24	+35
Thus, if the AI gives you a 22 for Contact, and you decide to debut at 21, your starting Contact rating will be 42 (22 + 20). All other ratings will be adjusted accordingly as well. Your ratings can not exceed your starting talent level, of course.

Yep, you're right. I wanted to use the 20CBC method, but forgot about the initial ratings.

Thanks.

Do you mean foreigners? If so, a European-born player here and there is fine - I'd prefer not to get a lot of them though - obviously it did (and still does) happen IRL, so it should be possible here as well. As for Asian-born players, once we get into the 1950s we can start to add them too.

That map represents the situation immediately following the Civil War - the yellow areas are territories not organized into states at that time. There is a mistake in that Alaska and Hawaii should not be yellow. Alaska ends up a part of Canada, Hawaii I haven't decided on yet.

I'd say that Hawaii stays as what it was before annexation by the US, as it's own kingdom, at least for the time being.

as for foreign I was thinking Canadian.
