Sweeeeet. The San Jose A's of Fremont.

I really don't care where they move, as long as they continue to exist.

As someone who lives reeeeaal close to SJ, I hope it goes through.

I was in the minority when I voted for the Giants to move down here. I have a feeling that it isn't going to happen though.

It would be a good move for the A's. -Anything to get out of the shadows of Mt. Davis. Anyone remember when the Oakland Coliseum was a good ballpark? It seems like forever....

Anyhoo, most of the people who go to the games are from the south bay.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Well, there is a rumor floating around that Paramount's Great America may be shutting down. The park is up for sale and may or may not be picked up. Only likely buyers would be Cedar Fair (Knotts and Cedar Point) or Anheiser-Busch (Busch Gardens and Sea World). However, PGA isn't really setup for solid expansion and the land beneath it is worth a ton. Throw in the fact that it's prime real estate and it could easily be prime land for a ballpark. I hope it doesn't happen. I want the A's in Oakland.

Why? I don't think it'd change things much if they made a short move like to San Jose or Fremont. And I'm sure the owner (and some of the fans!) would like to drop the Oakland name to get away from the Raidah stigma.

Fremont is fine and is potentially closer than possible sites in Oakland. San Jose is a bit too far and could alienate the Central Valley fans. Fremont would be a great fit, especially if they could place it within easy access of 680 and 880 (perhaps in between). Of course, if you are going for a secondary city in the Bay Area, why not Pleasanton? 45 minutes to an A's game. Woot!!!

Because San Jose is the biggest one, maybe?

By secondary, I meant Fremont. San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco are the primary Bay Area cities. I've always felt the A's should go to a place like Fremont or Pleasanton. Call them the East Bay A's or the California A's.

Fremont fits the criteria of being as close to San Jose as you can be, without being in San Jose. It's also inbetween Oakland and San Jose. What does Pleasanton got?

No, you're right. I'm just saying that Fremont, Pleasanton, Livermore, Castro Valley, Hayward, etc. all are a better fit than Oakland. San Jose is a little too far and might alienate some of the existing Oakland, East Bay, Central Valley fanbase. Fremont is as perfect as you can get. However, rather than call them San Jose, you still could call them Oakland. Or, you could simply go with East Bay or California. The A's ARE the East Bay's baseball club.

Back when I lived - briefly - in The City, it was understood that every other community in the Bay Area was a secondary one.

Very true. Some SF people don't think San Jose is even part of the Bay Area.

I don't agree with that, but what ya gonna do.

Nah, move 'em back to KC, as that city has been without a major league franchise for too long.

Somehow a fact that escapes most people, San Jose is a bigger city, population wise, than both Oakland and San Francisco, and it's the third largest city in California after LA and San Diego.
