Has anyone else experienced mystery injuries in 6.51a? Here's what happened:
I finished playing games for the day yesterday, closed OOTP, came back today and found one of my players, Joe Blanton (A's), to have a season ending injury. The injury wasn't there yesterday, and isn't logged anywhere in the player history or league injury news, but it is in the league injury report. So, I looked at a few other players in the injury report and found that 5 or 6 other players had the same thing happen...season ending injuries without a corresponding log in the player histories or injury news, all on the same day. The other teams got lucky and lost minor leaguers to this event, but I lost a solid pitcher. Sucks for me, but I guess it will make this season more interesting. |

I believe this is a "feature."

I've seen this happen only rarely. The fact that all of yours seem to have taken place on the same day may indicate something else at work. Did you have any crashes or errors during your simming?

I'm taking it in stride. Even though I don't like this "feature", it has given me the opportunity to call up a good pitcher from AAA. The A's pitching is backlogged with talent, so it will be nice to test out some youngsters without having to bump a proven veteran. |

I started a new solo league a couple of weeks ago. I gave myself the first pick. The SP I selected pitched 7 IP in one game and was out with a torn whatever the next time I went to the roster page. the injury happened in the 5inning, but he didn't have to come out of the game.

I also just had that happen. I play every game out for the Cardinals. While Jeff Suppan was resting on the bench before his next scheduled start, he apparently injured his pitching shoulder. Now Suppan is on the shelf for 5 weeks. Talk about my surprise when I checked my pitching staff after a 2-1 loss to the Mets and noticed Suppan's name adorning a "lovely" red print!
If this is a new feature, I actually like it. Pitchers toss on their off days, so an injury is entirely possible, and realistic. |

I get those from time to time as well - major injuries without notifications. Not one of the better 'features'.
On a side note, I notice that after about every other spring training sim, there will be a slew of serious injuries throughout the league, including the farm teams. Since I've set injuries to 'low' in my solo league, I don't welcome that many major injuries throughout the league at once, so I go in and reduce them (like change a 10 week injury down to 3 weeks say). |

I think you can edit him back to health somehow, but I'm not sure how to do it. However, I would just go with it.
Just think of it as an injury that occured from daily activity instead of something that happened during a game. Think back to when Richie Sexson had to miss time because he tried to pull a 7 1/8 cap over his massive dome or when Jeff Kent fell off his truck while he was waxing it. |

We are experiencing these in the NPBL - in past years, I'd only noticed a few in the off-season. This year, we've had a few during the year.

I've noticed Cubs pitchers seem to get injured a lot, but I see announcements about it in the paper. Oh wait, that's real life.

The injuries with no writeup anywhere was discovered in the beta version of 6.5 and documented here many times, but it was one of those things that was not fixed.
Also, a major bug, as mentioned before happens when you are playing a live game. The opposing pitcher (or your pitcher) can get hurt and is NOT taken out of the game. Now, I guess someone could explain that he got hurt, but felt he could continue, but after the game, the doc decided that it was more severe than he thought. This is NOT a feature, but it is a bug. In my last situation when this happened, the pitcher was shutting me down, then to see the injury happen, I was quite happy, but when he was still out there the next inning, I was not so happy. From what I understand, playing an injured player can increase the players chances of getting an injury again. In this instance, the player was out for 4-5 weeks after the game. I am not positive, but I think this happens when the player is injured at the final out of the inning.

Don't give Gates any ideas, or he will say, Windows crashes at random, but this is a feature. This causes you to reboot the system, which frees up memory that Office or other programs did not properly release when they were closed, thus making your computer run faster after the reboot. We will not be charging any extra for this new 'feature'. Files will randomly disappear from your hard drive. This is a new 'feature' that will give you more disk space on your hard drive. There is a 5 percent chance that this is not an important file to you and a 90 percent chance that this is not an important file to the operating system. Our programmers are working around the clock to raise the percentage numbers, and this patch should be available soon. Please have your credit card handy, as this will be a add-on to Windows. You may also have to call and read a 232 digit number to us (to our Indian Tech guys, of course), and then write down a 178 digit number that they will read back to you in broken English.

I'm not the one that first used the word 'feature' to describe this phenomena, and from my initial post, I said I wasn't pleased with it either - bug or otherwise. I also didn't realize that I had to get pre-approval from anyone for setting ground rules in my solo league. I just assumed that if I didn't want any player in my league to suffer catastrophic injuries resulting from spring training, I could go ahead and edit them with impunity. But just to please you, I'll hold off on that phone call to Bill. Cripes. Last edited by reds1; 03-06-2006 at 05:17 PM. |

Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy reading your threads on your experiences and experiments with OOTP, but there was nothing in your post to indicate that it was written with tongue firmly in cheek (such as a smilie) or that it didn't warrant a "back off" response. |

I just made a mistake, I hit the quote next to the wrong message.
My point was that you (not YOU, but more of a general you), can't take a bug and turn it into a feature by twisting what has happened. That was just the 1st line of the message, the rest of the message was some humor that I added to the message. No intention to piss anyone off, just to make someone smile. It is what I do.
