Fake.inc in OOTPB 2006?

Hi all,

For those that don't know, in Football Manager 2006 SI were unable to get a licence for the German national team players and certain other teams/players to use there names, images etc.

However a work around was built in which when certain files where manipulated (I wont say how not sure if I can for legal reasons) bingo! the correct player names appeared.

Is this something that you think we will see in OOTPB 2006 to give us an all singing all dancing MLB 2006 season?

Personally I doubt it, but SI normally have a few surprises (see the 'arse' command in CM00-01 for details ) bundled into there games to surprise us all

I believe we will see what we usually see. That is two or three oopt users make their own roster sets with real names independent of anything that Markus and now of course SI do. This avoids any legal hassles and their ratings of players are usually superior to anything EA, 989, or 2K sports does.

Ther will also be logo, face, and stadium packs made by moders.

All of these are usually ready to go at release or within a day or two. With oopt
running a little later than usual I would think they would be ready at release this year but of course could be wrong.

Remember too though that with oopt you can look at the default rosters and "see" real players if you try. That is the stats for a certain fictional pitcher on Minnesota for instance will be very similar to a former cy young award winning LH pitcher that plays for the Twins.

Don't let the fact that you don't have real players, by name, deter you from buying the game. They will be along soon enough.

There will be no magic button in the game for real rosters. However, upon release of the game, if you blink three times, at a moderately slow pace, real rosters will magically appear on this very website.

I have already pre ordered and am very much looking forward to playing the new OOTP.

I have to say as an avid follower of both FM and OOTPB the main difference between both sets of fans of there respective games seems to be that OOTPB fans appear to really get immersed into the own universe, be it with fictional or real data, whereas FM fans on the whole demand reality, reality, reality (by this I mean up to date rosters, player salery details etc).

This is just my observation of course that could be a sweeping generalisation and i am willing to stand corrected!

I don't know about FM fans, but OOTP fans absolutely run the gamut. Some want to create their own worlds with their own rules completely, some want current rules and everything exactly how it is now (like what you were saying FM fans want), and some want realistic historical stuff. So OOTP tends to try to cater to all three groups. I don't envy Markus that challenge.

Personally, I insist on historically accurate fictional sims which model modern rules to the letter.

And no other game can give Jaffe the release he needs. That's why we buy OOTP.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Too Much Information sign at this time. Please return your jaws to the upright and locked position.

What shocking news. Who would have thought it?

In other news, General Francisco Franco is still dead.

I think you also want to keep in mind that ootp lets you move your current career to the newest version while FM does not. This leads to players like me, and I'm sure ther are many others, where we start with a real player file and the league eventually becomes fictional through attrition. I have been playing ootp since v4 and have played every inning of every game. I have completed 12 seasons, roughly three seasons per version, since I have moved the career from v4 to 5,6, and then 6.5. From my original Cubs I only have Prior, Wood, and Patterson left. Other real players on my roster are Jesus Colome and Ben Hendrickson. The rest are fictional and yet I know them all. My intention, if there aren't too many irregularities because of new things added to the game, is to move this career into ootp 2006 and continue. So in another 5 seasons or so my league will have morphed into a fictional league.

I also started playing FM this year and love the game. I agree from going to the SI boards with what you are saying about FM players wanting everything up do date. I do wonder though if this would change, at least for some of the players, if they were offered the opportunity to move their current careers into the next version?

I have read in both the EHM, another SI game I play, and FM forums that there really is no need to add importing to next versions because only a small number of people would do it. I wonder if that is true or if nobody asks or comments about it because they have been told over and over again that it is impossible?

If FM and EHM would add the ability to continue from version to version I would be an automatic buy every year like I am for ootp. As it is now I will have to weigh my options each year on whether or not it's worth it to me to start over.

The first thing I would do when I started on OOTPB league was to run a big draft. I never knew that there was an effort to make the fictional OOTPB players statistically resemble their MLB counterparts until reading this forum recently.

Still, I am happy playing the game the way I want to, and now I have the satisfaction of breaking up the Yankees and spreading all of their players into the antipodes of my league.

British or Marc..what would this code be?? And are there any others? And do you have to start a new game to use them?

FM/WSM 2006 is an incredible game. I hope someone makes a FM Scout program. This program allows the user to see every player and team and every visible and hidden rating..including potential ratings.
