Colin Cowherd: A Laugh a Day

I caught the end of his show on ESPN Radio this afternoon, and he was talking about the Kenny Williams/Frank Thomas thing, which quickly moved into talk of Thomas' career. And he started saying that he likes to go with his gut feeling when it comes to the Hall of Fame, such that when he hears a name, if he says "Hall of Fame" immediately, that's a HoF player, but if he hesitates, it's not. (He's very much against the use of metrics of any kind.) So he said Thomas makes him hesitate just a little, with a part of him that says HoF no doubt, but part of him saying he didn't get enough clutch hits, was injured during key times, and other claims that don't have any numbers to back them up.

So then, inexplicably, he mentions Jim Rice, and says something to the effect, "I say 'Jim Rice' and immediately say 'Hall of Famer.' He dominated the sport for a decade. He was the Barry Bonds of his generation."

I almost crashed my car. Thanks, Colin.

He then said something else about how, if anything, Thomas may have underachieved over his career because he was expecting more. I didn't really catch that, as I was still laughing from hearing Rice being equated to Bonds.

Would that make George Foster the Ken Griffey Jr of his day?

Colin Cowherd has suffered a ratings bump of -5 in credability.

I say "Colin Cowherd" and immediately think "Most ignorant sports radio personality ever." Without hesitating.

I say "Colin Cowherd" and immediately think "Ass".

Someone should tell him that he is not Jim Rome and should stop trying to do his show like the King of Smack.

What? Jim Rome is probably the second most overrated person of the last decade (to Keanu Reeves).

Rome calls his show the Jungle. That would have been picked up by all the Clones out there.

Oh, so it's no longer "Rome is Burning"? At any rate, Rome is still teh suk. I wouldn't last long in the jungle either, as I would probably be restrained by security for trying to beat the everliving crap outta the guy.

Rome is Burning is the TV show. The Jungle is the nickname for Rome's radio show.

I will always remember Rome as being the guy Jim Everett smacked around. With that embarrassing incident, he established himself as a tough-talking weenie & he has never changed. I have agreed with a couple things he's said, but overall he's just an ass with a napoleon complex.

Thankfully, I've never once listened to Colin and thought he was trying to do his show like Jim Rome. Are you sure you've ever listened or just going on what others have said.

Both suck. He's got a worn out schtick that is WAY past it's time and yet he keeps trotting it out there. One Trick Pony.

I used to listen to Colin quite regularly because the station that carries Rome doesn't come in so good where I am at.

It is the whole one man show, the inside jokes, taking very little phone calls, and the 30 min. rants that reminded me of Rome. He is not as clever as Rome nor does he have the same command of the English language as Rome does.
