Unhappy Larry Bowa Vanishes

OK, I wasn't sure where to post this so I apologize if the thread belongs elsewhere. Here is what happened:

I was in the free agent signing period in 1978. Larry Bowa was on the DL still after being seriously injured in 1977. I was looking at HOF and the retired players list. I nominated Vada Pinson for the HOF and was actually looking at his stats. I have a fax line on my computer. Suddenly, I receive a fax and my fax monitor comes in and forces me out of STB2k3. I guess you cannot have anything else running in the background in order to STB to continue functioning. I could not get back into STB. So I closed the program down through task manager (I run XP).

I go back into STB and low and behold Larry Bowa has vanished completely and Vada Pinson (the retired player) is on my roster!!!!!! Bowa, who was a good leadoff player for my team, who I gave hefty prospects to get on my roster, is no where to be found. Any suggestions? Has anything like this ever happened to any of you?

Not that I have much of a clue when it comes to this game, but I've found that if I get kicked out of the game for whatever reason, and it's still showing as running in the Task Manager, all I need to do is double-click on OOTP4 in the TASK MANAGER, not on the toolbar. The toolbar will NOT get me back into the game.

So, rather than close the game out through the Task Manager, try double-clicking on it instead...

Make sense? FYI, I'm also running XP.

I've not run across the problem, one way around it would be to import him again as a single player in the free agent pool. Then if you have saved the boxscores you could atleast re-construct his current year stats using Pierre's editor.

Gromit, Thanks. I'll try that in xp next time it happens. Steve, thanks also. I'm not going to bother because I already drafted Paul Molitor to replace Bowa but I will keep that suggestion in mind.

Make sure to backup from time to time, this will help if something like this happens again.

I love Larry Bowa but I wish he were a coach and not the manager. He is incredibly awful at managing his personnel, but I'd love to have him around for his win-or-die-trying attitude.

I mean, it took him a year and half to realize that giving Doug Glanville 700 plate appearances a year is a waste of the #2 hole in the order.
