Anyone else...?

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but is anyone else waiting to purchase the game until it actually comes out instead of doing the pre-ordering? Although I've purchased several different versions of OOTP in the past, and have read great things about this new version and will more than likely be buying it, I am still planning on holding off until I see how everyone views the game when it comes out. If it comes out with tons of bugs and does not meet everyone's expectation I will not purchase it until things are changed. If everyone loves it then I will buy it. After all I'm only missing out on about a $3.50 savings by not preordering. I'm guessing the game will be about $35?

I did preorder but I understand your stance. The only HUGE fear I have is the interface. The way EHM and other SI titles are setup I find them basicly unplayable (I'm just not willing to play long enough to learn my way around). But even with that said I'm fairly comfortable with my decision to pre-order based on the screenshots that have been released.

I guess I take it for granted that M.H. can build a solid baseball engine.

I'm debating this decision right now. I haven't pre-ordered, but was thinking of doing it this week before the 10% discount disappeared. But the last day or two I've been thinking that maybe a 10% discount isn't worth the risk...and I'll just hold onto my money until the game is out. I know I'm going to buy it...at least 99% sure. But by not buying it now, I have the option to still not buy when it comes out, if for some reason it tanks.

Anyway...just adding to the discussion.

I preordered. The only reason not to get the discount (and I got it at 20%) would be if you think the game is never going to be playable (as spiff said) and/or you're more content with the previous version.

Considering all of the upgrades/changes/improvements, I think this will be a far superior game.

I have enough faith in the Heinsohn to make it playable and not have it self-destruct.

It may have bugs when it comes out. If that is the case, then you can wait for them to be fixed just as readily with it already on your computer as not. The discounted savings make up for whatever interest you could gain on the $35 being in an account.

I don't see how preordering in this case is a bad idea, but I can see how some may be cautious.

There is no doubt I will buy this game. But, why have any company (even a good one like this) hold on to my money prior to giving me anything for it? Its not much money either way, so, on principal, I'm opposed to it. If they really wanted to get people to pre-order, they would release it 2 or 3 weeks early only to those who pre-ordered. That would do the trick.

Or they could give you a discount. Or have some kind of raffle where some of the people who preorder get to be a beta tester. Those kinds of things are a pretty nice incentive.

Hasn't been announced yet. I think Marc said at some point they'll be near end-line testers. They'll get to check to make sure that, at the end, there aren't any fatal flaws (or identify what flaws there are). So they'll get it pretty soon before they hope to release it, I think.

Nah, I plan on playing the demo a lot before I buy the game.

I share the exact same view as you do. I thought I was doing pretty good by holding off during the first time they offered the discount. Then I noticed they brought it back and I caved. (Markus knew what he was doing! )

The discount was an idea I had to reward those people who have stood loyal to OOTP for a long time. The initial 20% only went to registered users of the OOTP Developments messageboard and it was a gesture from SI to you to hopefully prove we are a nice company, we do listen, we value your input but more importantly we simply wanted to say thanks for your support.

The 10% is just a general incentive, open to anyone since November.

I appreciate that for many of you - you'll wait. Hopefully, once the game is out you'll decide to make that purchase and tell your friends and family about the great game you have been playing.

I also appreciate that for some, the quality of the product and the interface are proving to be concerns. Once again, we certainly hope to ensure you are satisfied.

The only reason I didn't pre-order was because I didn't have the extra cash laying around. So, I'll be getting it day of release.

I never buy a new version until there have been 2-4 patches released. Once the consensus opinion seems to be that the most prominent bugs have been worked out and the game is finally playable, I buy it.

Don't worry about the interface. I remember hating the new FM interface in the 2005 version because I was so used to the CM interface. But once you get used to it, it is just so easy to fly around all the different screens you will think it to be the best thing since sliced bread.

I didn't pre-order. I will wait until 2 or 3 weeks after it gets released, and if its mostly good reviews on the forum, then I will buy it.

The interface for FM has one evident flaw to me: it's hard to control your coaching staff. Scouts, too. They're not listed in many places, and assigning them gets a bit tedious, it could be much more simple.

Another way I look at it... if there are problems, it would be easier to fix with more people helping out.

If you're 85% sure you're going to buy it, then get it to help out at worst.

I highly doubt Markus is going to release a buggy product, so .... never mind, no point in arguing a moot point. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
