Daytona 500

I know they want to keep the speed down for safety but these restrictor plate races are trouble just waiting to happen. I'm sure today we'll see some monster crashes with 5-10 cars involved just because they're all in a bunch and I just hope no one gets seriously hurt.

It's just funny that they keep talking about Dale Earnhardt when they put something on the cars that makes it even more dangerous than usual.

My pick today: Carl Edwards.

No chance. Jeff Gordon makes it two in a row.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

I dunno, I saw Bobby Allison's accident live in 87 and I can't even fathom what it would be like if that happened now since the cars would probably be doing close to 250mph. NASCAR came pretty damn close to recreating Le Mans 1955 and, IMHO, wisely did what they had to in order to make things safer for the spectators. More can be done to make it safer for the drivers, but I think first and foremost you have to ensure the safety of the grandstands.

Edit: I'm also going with Gordon, but I'd keep an eye on Martin Truex and Denny Hamlin (plus they're 2 of the most accomplished sim-racers out there).

Exactly. Denny Hamlin is my darkhorse here.

My worry is that Truex/Hamlin/Earnhardt will end up recreating most of the races I've seen them do online, pulling together near the front then wiping out half the field with 2 to go.

This is going to be fun. I've got the NASCAR in Car free preview on with Nascar.com leaderboard loaded up so I follow everything along.

On my cable system, Time Warner, they have it as a free preview in the On Demand channels (5 drivers). I would imagine it would be a free preview on anything that carries NASCAR In Car.... cable or satellite...

If you guys aren't getting the free preview, you're not missing much. All the cameras except for Tony Stewart's car are down already.

Man, I hate seeing Kyle Petty not do well, especially when it isn't even nearly his own fault. Great guy, from an important NASCAR family. Bummer.

And my pick looks to be gone (at least for a while), as he just said over the radio that he thinks something's broke underneath. A lot of rattling. He brought up the idea of taking it behind the wall... which would take him out of the running, for the most part.

EDIT: He has every gear but 3rd. Good times.

What the hell is with Tony Stewart? That guy talked about people getting killed out there last week... he's the one that's going to cause it.
