Tampa Bay Rays

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2308500

Quote:
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are considering a name change, the Tampa Tribune reported Friday.

"When [new owner] Stu Sternberg came in, he said there was a need for dramatic change. One way for dramatic change is to change the name," team president Matt Silverman told the paper.

Silverman said that one option is to remove the "Devil" from Devil Rays after meetings with focus groups revealed a negative association with the with word "devil," the Tribune reported.
Because "Devil Rays" isn't bad enough.

Tampa Rays would probably be better, though. Kill the rhyme.

I agree. The city is Tampa, I don't understand why all the teams down there are called Tampa Bay (Devil Rays, Bucs, Lightning).

I heard this a while back. Dumb idea. Devil Rays is a pretty cool name, but the team makes it look bad.

I will support a name change if this is their new logo:

If its changed to Rays then Ill think of Sun Rays which is way too homosexual/WNBAesque for me, stick with Devil Rays.

I recently read they were also considering a completely different name, something like "Tarpons"...

Of course, the commentary on that potential change has been interesting. A simple letter mishap and it is a nickname just begging to be ragged on.
