Will it be possible to TOTALLY RESET the stats in OOTP2006?

Will it be possible to completely reset the stats in OOTP2006?

In past versions you never could get rid of career stats.

By "completely', I mean that the league would be a totally clean slate, just like it was when you first started it with no old league stat residue?

a selfish bump.

Not the most important question in the world, but it would be a nice thing to have in the game.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean Eugene. Can't you already do this in the Misc Options with the "erase all career stats" buton?

What doesn't get erased is the HTML files - they are write-once "what you wrote is what you get" files. Those can, however, be erased manually.

The bigger problem is a result of the game's design - something we wouldn't want to be any different. Once you import the players from Lahman, or create fictionals, and start to play - the players begin to change. Ratings and talents start going up and down - and no record is kept as to where they were before. Thus, if you erase all data and start over, your not starting over with the same players anyway.

The best - and only way to do what you want to do Eugene, is to make a copy of your "LG" directory. This way, it's a simple matter to erase the current LG directory and move the backup one in to start over.

Good idea.

Copying the .lg file will work, but personally I zip the leagues, and then burn the zip files to CD. It saves space.

Right but can't we just get a CLEAN SLATE from the very first second we start a new league, without the history of career stats??

SUre - the game "could" go out and delete all HTML history if you push a special button - but I suspect the complaint would then be "I didn't realize it was going to erade the history too".

Everyone plays the game differently - and expects different things from it. It's probably safer to leave some of those things to the players and make sure he understands how to do them - based on what he's trying to do.

An excellent point.

The one thing I urge every one of you to remember is this: back up your leagues early and often. Taking a minute to zip up a .lg file after a season and taking five more now and then to burn your league history zip files to CD is easy, but losing a league with a lot of history that you are very fond of forever because you didn't take the time to back it up is hard.

And if you need a good free zip program, go here and use this one:

As I said in Post #6 JB, you can't get back to where you started. Player ratings and talents change as soon as you start playing, and there is no history kept of where you started from. The copying of the league folder is the only way this can be done.

What he means is this...

If I start my 1956 season and 1/4 of the way through I notice that the HR setting is way to high. If I go and RESET SEASON, it zeros the standings to zero along with everyone stats for the season. However, in the history of Joe Smith, it still shows that he was player of the monthin June and he had 4 hrs on April 27th and 6 RBIS. Those have nothing to do with the HTML files, they are in the p####.txt files and could have been wiped out. But to manually do it would take way too long. Also, any records that were set would still exist in the record book with no way to see what the record was before it was set this time.

But even so, starting over isn't really "starting over" - that's MY point. Copying the "lg" directory is such an easy step - and solves ALL the issues.

Exactly BC. It's what I've been doing for years in ootp, fbcb, fof, ehm, and fm.
It's the easiest, no hassle way to do it IMHO.

If you don't back up your leagues, sooner or later you will regret it.

The only issues I have had is when the power goes out when I am simming the league (replace the UPS battery dummy).

I backup using a program called Karen Ware. (Google Karen Power Toys, just DO NOT look at her picture).

You can automate it so it does the backup at 2am while you are laying there trying to go to sleep but not being able to go to sleep because you ate pizza too late)

It just copies the new files. I don't always do it after every league, but this sim is not your typical 'online league', so if it crashes I have creative work arounds.

Once, I started simming the 2nd half. It got almost into the playoffs and something happened, it crashed or an airplane crashed on my room or something like that, and the season was squash. I was able to finish the season, but I basically lost all of the 2nd half stats. I creatively told the people that the stat nerds that process the season went on strike after the all-star break. They bought it.
