I think I just ended my last OOTP6 league

End of an era. OOTP6 has been THE GAME for the past 2 years. I've gotten so used to it now.

I didn't intend on ending the league, but after about 30 seasons of play, I got a catobase error that I can't fix (one of those "duplicate key" errors). Without catobase, the league dies. OOTP alone doesn't do enough statistical stuff to keep me interested. I need that extra Catobase stuff.

I can't see starting up a new league now. I'd planned on keeping this one going until the new game was released. Now it's too close. I guess I'll have to put my energies into something more productive until the new release.

I understand everything up until the last sentence, can you please explain that concept to me?

I've been like that since about November. I had started a league....had some catobase issues which led to me losing interest in that league.

I've got a few online league teams, one historical league that I sim from time to time...but no solo leagues. Have pre-ordered OOTP, and have been been thinking about how I want to set up my baseball world in the upcoming version which is fun in itself.

In my OOTP career I've had many league I've made and played...but as far as solo leagues...I have two that lasted longer then the rest. The first one was started in OOTP 3 and lasted until OOTP5. I play out my games...but still got through 26 seasons. It was just the default league that I changed the names of the players and teams to their real-life counterparts. The second league was completely fictional and loosely based off the Dreamteams Metro League. This was the one that died due to Catobase issues. I had played through about 12 seasons from using OOTP 5-6.5. Since than....I've started to create two leagues but can't even get through that process before I lose interest.

Until than...I'll give the games I got for xmas some playing time....and when I'm in the mood for baseball...I'll work on how I want my league(s) structured, what cities/regions will be involved, logos...and fictional stadiums etc...

I have this league going, which I had quit awhile back. The only reason I can continue to play knowing that a new, better version is coming out is that I plan on to take the league into the new version starting in 2010. We are getting ready for the move. Catobase is not working but thats fine. That shouldnt matter in March

I have one last league that I'm using. I've been playing it for several months now, a simple fictional league that I got attached to several players in because I play out all the games. Other than that, my others died for one reason or another.

Ironically, Catobase hadn't given me any real problems with the 3 semi-longtime leagues I shelved. But the one I'm attached to, I haven't even used Catobase. Speaking of Catobase, I think I'll finally put it out of it's misery and uninstall it.

If that isn't an ominous sign of the changing times, I don't know what is.
I can't bring myself to comment further, at least right now.

Sadly, I ended mine a while back. The runtime errors got the best of me. With losing stats everytime a runtime error occured, a "statistically driven" game is really of no use. I hate it too! I have been playing since OOTP3.

The saddest part is not being able to get excited about the up coming game. If I can't play this version with out a game crash, I probably won't be able to play the new one either.

I really wish those associated with the game could help those of us who keep getting the runtime errors so we can play the game. I mean more help than "rebuild" your computer every other day.

Oh well, I keep visiting the board hoping to see a thread say, "Hey We Fixed It!" Oh to dream......

I had pretty much the exact same thing happen awhile ago and I just can't get into starting another league. I still have the league so I might import it to v06, but who knows. Now I'm actually just doing a lot of planning for my v06 worlds.

The new version is a total rewrite, so you might find that it works fine.

The new version will be so much more than the current one that I'd rather just start a brand new league and take immediate advantage of all the new features.

That's my feeling too. That and when we import, the stats we had won't match up with the stats we will have; there'll be so much more with the next version.

I havent played my league much lately either, anticipation of the new release and drooling over the new features kinda makes ver 6 feel obsolete already. Ive had some Cato problems too, but nothing that has killed it yet. But the database just seems to be a mess. It hasnt imported the player histories in over 15 seasons and numerous other glitches, players repeat themselves. Just annoying stuff I can fix in Access but have run out of the desire to do so. Ive been spending my time planning my new league for the new version, working on a fictional facepack for it, etc. hurry up Spring!

I'm in the camp of I'll just create and start my baseball world from scratch. That way I will have no missing gaps of data that 6.x doesn't have track/have that 2006 will.

I quit playing my solo leagues quite awhile ago, mainly because I've gotten into oddball solo leagues (see the Viking league, Thunderdome league) and the support for oddball leagues looks to be much better in OOTPB06. It's like playing games on an old computer when you know you're getting a new top-of-the-line one in a couple months.

Markus has stated that you wil be able to import v6 leagues into the upcoming version, and still take advantage of all new leagues and features.

I could be wrong....but I took what he said as we would still be able to import our 6.x leagues in and be able to continue them while gaining the new features....but it wouldn't be retroactive...for example...I couldn't go to a league in its 9th season of play and use the new splits that will be in OOTP 2006.

It would be cool if you can...but I believe this won't be the case.

I was under the impression that those new stats would notbe existant, but would begin accumulating at the point you import the league to the new version. I could be wrong though

If that's the cae, it's notso bad...at least you have your league and will be able to take advantage of all the new features. So you won't be able to see how batter X fared against Pitcher Y in the OOTP6 Years, you can start doing so in the new version.
