Dodgers trade Jackson for Baez

Has Edwin Jackson' stock fallen so far that Baez is the best they can do for him? I remember a season or so ago Cleveland was interested in him and some names thrown around were Coco Crisp and Grady Sizemore. Baez is a good reliever, but I wouldn't trade Crisp or Sizemore in this deal. But back then the Dodgers weren't budging on Jackson. I remember this guy was considered the second coming of Bob Gibson. What happened? Was it too much too soon or is he just not that good?

Nah, it's not Edwin Jackson for Baez. It's Jackson and Tiffany for Baez and crap.

Lance Carter was also in this deal! The Mets wouldn't give up Aaron H. for him at leats the Dodgers would give up Edwin Jackson for him! Now that gives then 4 poeple who can closer! Dodgers must have another move up their sleeves to replace the Edwin Jackson the SP! This also means Huff won't be traded!

I guess this is the reason his stock fell:

Jackson, once considered a top prospect, appeared in 19 games for the Dodgers over the past three seasons, going 6-4 with a 5.50 ERA. Last season, he was a combined 9-11 with a 5.91 ERA for Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A Las Vegas before going 2-2 with a 6.28 ERA for the Dodgers

Could it be that they think Gagne might be damaged goods?

Baez is replacing Duaner Sanchez. And the Dodgers didn't really have much in the pen to start with anyway.

Not that Baez is all that attractive of a player to recieve in return, but this isn't Scott Kazmir going to the DRays for Zambrano. Edwin Jackson seems to have much more hype behind him than his performance would justify since he looked like he had some serious potential in '03.

Edit: Chuck Tiffany, on the other hand... looks like he's got the chance to be a very good prospect.

Yeah but guess what happens if Jackson becomes the guy he could have been before (he was injured I believe), and Tiffany could be really, really good.

They basically got cr@p for 2 prospects.

Jackson sucks. The last time I saw him start here in Vegas, he had one pitch, a 99 heat down the middle, and every single player on the other team had it timed and it turned into a home run derby. I think the other team had put up about 8 runs in the first two innings and he somehow stayed out there for four. The crowd was about to storm the field and forcibly remove Jackson from the mound. And that's not an exaggeration, people were on their feet when he was pitching and screaming their heads off, much like this:

Oh I agree... I don't think that he'll ever be what he was expected to be and Tiffany has a lot of early potential, but Colletti sucks. That's a given.

I think the point I was trying to make is illustrated especially by this title. Jackson is probably viewed by most to be the centerpiece of the deal, when I think that in reality, he's got less potential than Tiffany.

When the mist rolls in on Highway One
like a curtain to the day
A thousand silhouettes hold out their thumbs
and I see them and I say
You are my children
my sweet children
I am your poet.

With hair just like the burning tree of Moses
the girl beside you is your twin
Behind your fiery make-up you should know this
I am your sister, I am your kin, your flesh and kin
I'll write this tune
in matching phrases
just to show it

You are the orphans in an age
of no tomorrows
and with your walking you wage a war
against the sorrows
Your fathers left you
a row to hoe
and you'll hoe it.

If I could write you easy directions
on a list
you would not read it, you could not see it
for the mist
Besides my pen is
very righteous
and I know it.

So walk to the edges of a dying kingdom
There's one more summer just around the bend
The amber in your smile is brave and winsome
for though your highway has no end, it never ends
There is still the sky
the windy cliff
and the sea below it
I'd take an angel's ram horn trumpet
and I'd blow it
I'd blow it.

Have you seen her lately? She can't even come close to catching up with the fastball anymore.

Anyone have any of the old rumors with Jackson back when he was a top spect?

Wasn't there a rumored Jackson for Zito deal at one point?

I don’t know about Zito, but I do recall that last winter Jackson was rumored to be headed to the A’s for Hudson before he was traded to the Braves.

Here's a quote from the Hardball Times from Dec. '04:

Quote:
While all the rumors about Hudson going to the Dodgers were swirling around last week, I kept wondering why all the A's could get for him were Edwin Jackson and Antonio Perez.

As I mentioned Cleveland wanted to get him in the Milton Bradley deal, but LA wanted Sizemore and Bradley. Cleveland balked then I think they offered Crisp and Bradley instead and LA balked. So Cleveland finally settled on Gutierrez and Andrew Brown, who I have heard has a good shot at making the bullpen this year.
