I always thought that NASHVILLE CATS would be a good name for a team there. It is the home of Country Music and "Cats" being a term for cool musicians

The Lovin' Spoonful had a hit in 1966 called "Nashville Cats"...one line went something like "there are thirteen hunderd and fifty-two gittar pickers in Nashville"...being a country dj for many years I always liked that line.

I think Bill Parsons (aka Bobby Bare) made a song about Elvis going into the army called "All-American Boy" in 1959 and it had a line about "and them swingin' Cats are havin' a ball".

(See song lyrics below)

A cat pickin' a guitar with musical notes would be my suggestion for the logo.

I think there was a logo for the Nashville Cats produced at one time on the forum.

ARTIST: Lovin' Spoonful
TITLE: Nashville Cats
Lyrics and Chords

{Refrain}
Nashville Cats, play clean as country water
Nashville Cats, play wild as mountain dew
Nashville Cats, been playin' since they's babies
Nashville Cats, get work before they're two

/ CG7 C - - / / / /

Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar pickers in Nashville
And they can pick more notes than the number of ants
On a Tennessee anthill
Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar cases in Nashville
And any one that unpacks his guitar could play
Twice as better than I will

/ C - / G7 - / / C - / / F - / G7 - / C - /

Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a
Musical proverbial knee-high
When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high
And the record man said every one is a yellow Sun
Record from Nashville
And up north there ain't nobody buys them
And I said, but I will

And it was
{Refrain}

Well, there's sixteen thousand eight hundred twenty one
Mothers from Nashville
All their friends play music, and they ain't uptight
If one of the kids will
Because it's custom made for any mother's son
To be a guitar picker in Nashville
And I sure am glad I got a chance to say a word about
The music and the mothers from Nashville

{Refrain}

The All American Boy
by: Bill Parsons
Lyrics by:
1958

Chart Activity

Gather round, cats
And I'll tell you a story
About how to become
An All American Boy

Buy you a guitar
And put it in tune
You'll be rocking
And rolling soon

Impressing the girls
Picking hot licks
And all that jazz

I bought me a
Guitar a year ago
Learned how to
Play in a day or so

And all around town
It was well understood
That I was knocking em out
Like Johnny B. Goode

Hot licks, showing off
Ah, number one

Well, I'd practice all day
And up into the night
My papa's hair was turning white

Cause he didn't like
Rock and roll
He said, you can stay, boy
But that's gotta go

He's a square
He just didn't dig me at all

So I took my guitar
Picks and all
Bid farewell
To my poor ole pa

Split for Memphis
Where they say you all
And them swingin cats
Are having a ball

Sessions
Hot licks and all
They dig me

I was rocking and bopping
And I's a-getting the breaks
The girls all said that
I had what it takes

When up stepped a
Man with a big cigar
He said, come here, cat
I'm gonna make you a star

I'll put you on Bandstand
Buy you a Cadillac
Sign here, kid

I signed my name
And became a star
Having a ball with my guitar
Driving a big long Cadillac
And fighting the girls
Off of my back

They just kept a-coming
Screaming, yeah, they like it

So I'd pick my guitar
With a great big grin
And the money just
Kept on pouring in

But then one day
My Uncle Sam
He said, here I am

Uncle Sam needs you, boy
I'm gonna cut your hair
Take this rifle, kid
Gimme that guitar, yeah

I always liked that Spoonful song, but haven't played it for years. Just dug it out on a "Greatest Hits" compilation and loved it - and all their other stuff, also. Thanks for the memory, Eugene!

So that's Steve Kuffrey's team? Cool. Didn't know he was in any online leagues.

I have a Nashville Cats from one of my short-lived fictional leagues. It was a crazy theme with team names like Memphis Belles, Nashville Cats, Detroit Supremes, California Surfers, San Francisco Deadheads, Kentucky Pickers, Texas Playboys... crazy stuff like that. I don't know if its what you're looking for but as I have a Cats from Nashville, here it is...

Thanks

It is from a league I cooked up with a twist of humor in all the names and images. Some of the other teams were New Orleans Jazz, Key West Parrotheads, Seattle Experience. I think I had more fun thinking up the names and making the logos than anything else. I'm usually not much for playing fictional leagues but every once in a while I give it a try... though my Vegas Casino league has stuck around for a few seasons now so who knows.. it might "convert" me.

Very nicely done, jdew and pat.

I really like the way jdew used the Cat's tail for the "C" in "CATS". Extremely creative.

I will add them to my logo cache. I will need a Nashville team for OOTPBM 2006.

I have already started collecting them.

I will be ready, thanks to very talented designers like you.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. Since I did the logo for myself a while back, I deleted most everything intermediate or other than the end result. Sorry....

Interesting, I was just sitting in my archaeology class the other day, doodling and bored out of my mind as usual. And I came up with this:

http://members.shaw.ca/pyuana/catsketch.png

We were doing Egyptian art so it might have had some influence in this design.

ooohhhhh... Cuss those are outstanding.

Thank you for sharing them.

I'm torn between using #1 or #3 in your most recent post.

Thanks again!
