Markus Heinsohn blog 2 : Customization & fictional leagues / Game-Modes

Whilst OOTP 6.5 allowed you to play one league which included 3 minor league levels. OOTPBM 2006 allows you to have as many leagues, in any setup you want. Here Markus Heinsohn explains all.

More good stuff. Im liking the sound of it. One question. Does the game have a large database of say Japanese names to choose from when randomly generating names?

So far we have a database of American, Spanish and Japanese names... I hope I can find some more databases, with i.e. French, Portuguese, African(?) and more asian names in there. I'd appreciate any help

Markus, great stuff first of all!

I asked a while back in the old thread and I can't see it covered here. Obviously, you can have as many levels as you want - do you need to have a certain number, however, for the game to run right?

What I mean by that is do young players need seperate levels for development? Will young players develop differently in a league with one levels of minors (where 35 year old vets will play against 25 year olds and new draftees) than one were each age range has its own level (rookie ball, AA etc.)? Leading on from this, will running two seperate leagues with different numbers of levels (one league with one minor league, a second league with three minors levels) produce different development curves?

It sounds amazing, i'm a long time CM/FM fan and i always like the low league manager concept. Now i can do it in OOTP, starting as a minor leagues coach and grow my way to the majors.

I've lobbied for the split-season format for something like a year now. Considering how common it is in the minor leagues, it needed to be there at some point.

Why just second biggest? The biggest fear was that OT gets closed soon.
Good stuff all around.

Play modes
OK, now we have our baseball world, so what’s your role in it? When you have created your game, you are asked to add at least one manager. This manager can also be the commissioner of the league, which results in a gaming experience similar to previous versions because you are able to edit just about everything and can also make moves for computer teams.
When you are not the commissioner, you are a simply a manager/general manager who gets signed and fired when your team performs badly. This mirrors the ‘manager mode’ in OOTP 6, and also the mode the other SI games work in.
Will we still have the current option of just being Commissioner and not have to worry about being hired/fired? One of the turn-offs of EHM for me is the fact you have to be a manager and can't just Commish a league.

This looks great!

You can also decide if the league may interact with others via trade or free agency.
I was wondering if there would be a way to replicate the posting process that Japanese players have to go through before coming to the majors?

What about customization of the draft for fictional leagues? Being able to trade picks (in solo leagues), editing draft order and having one team have more than one pick per round, compensatory selections, etc.

Markus,

Please let us know the most helpful format to have names in, I'm sure we can come up with extensive information for you in more nationalities than just American, Spanish, and Japanese.

I know there's already at least decent information out there for French, Scandinavian, and German.

You probably know this already, but some way of a) tying names to origins, and b) tying first names to last names would be greatly appreciate. This would prevent generating names like Lashaun Eichmann, and would also prevent the creation of players named Akira Takasaki whose origin is Dominican Republic.
