Does # of years in career matter?
When importing a player from a DB, does the number of years a player played affect anything? That is, does a shorter/longer real-life career impact ratings or sim-lifespan in any way? Has anyone seen any impact with historical imports?
I would test this but I don't have access to PC for the week. For instance, do players with longer real-life careers last longer in OOTP sim-life? I believe OOTP aging is not impacted by the underlying number of years played in one's career, but I never really studied it. I do recall Bonds retiring well before the age of 40 in one of my historical sims, but that is a sample of one. Cobb lasted forever in one of my sims too. However, there were other players who had OOTP careers considerably shorter or longer than they had in real life. |

The number of years played will not effect aging, that will still happen randomly as if it were a fictional player. However, the number of years may have an impact on the talent ratings that are created (someone else may be able to give more insight on that aspect).

I'm not sure about that one, though my guess is there is a cutoff point. However, I have nothing to back that up and no good guess as to what that cutoff point would be. |

I ran some experiments on this on OOTP6 when tinkering with my own database.
I don't have the results handy, but from memory, there was a definite cutoff, so that players with <x number of years would import with poor talent ratings regardless of stats, while if you had >x years talent would be in line with stats. Because I was trying to have all players import based on peak, I gave each player 4 identical seasons of their peak production and nothing more (except for a cup-of-coffee age 18 season that ensured they would import as 18 year olds with bad ability but realistic talent). I also recall that once you hit the magic number of years , it didn't matter how many years you used. So, Cap Anson with his peak year repeated 4 times imported as the exact same player as Cap with his peak repeated 20 times. But both were better than the version of Cap with just one peak year in the database. All of this may be out of date due to the new way OOTP6.5 imports players. |

The second paragraph in my post was garbled. What I was trying to say is that players with at least 4 years worth of good stats in the database would import at their true talent levels, while players with only 1 or 2 years of stats would import with poor talent regardless of stats.

Thanks Vholes, that was my assumption too. When creating some of our databases, Ankit and I duped 10 seasons, just to be safe, but I had never tested it.
