Rituals or crazy things you do while playing the game...

The conversation thread made me think about this. In my house we're a bit strange, however I'm sure we're not alone While playing, pfreek will wear a coach jacket and has a clipboard with all of her notes always in arms reach. I constantly talk with my players and will interview myself throughout the season. She actually had to leave the room in one of our games during the World Series because she was getting stressed out. While I yell at players and bang on things from time to time, she has made an artform out of it. So many expletives from such a pretty mouth. What about everyone else?

bascially during the season I'll be constantly trying to hatch ideas. Some have been so amazingly complex that they'd involve four teams, over 20 players, and having 17 of them get past waivers. All this without the other GM's knowing about any of the other participants.

Of course if they had goen through it woudl have made my team an immense powerhouse beyond compare.

As for the big games, I'll take the role of the fan, releived when they do well, cursing their names when they do poorly, sometimes even trading players off if thy had sucked.

Not much, but i get up and do a gold prospectors dance every time i win a playoff series or my team gets promoted in FM/WSM. Other than that, nothing i can think of.

I throw things and utter profanities when the team sucks... so I did that a lot in my Octopus League days

If I'm running a WGP/GBA sim, I'll fire up period music that Teflon provided.

When my closer blew up our lead in the 12th inning of the nlds (with my team losing the serie 2-0), I confess that I've bitten the couch while screaming. Principally to avoid waking up my girlfriend and my daughter who were sleeping... It tasted good!

Did it taste like chicken?

Seriously, I've chilled a lot since my early days of playing sports simulations. When I was in several FBPro leagues, I would shout at the players when they didn't do well. I pounded on my desk so many times that I actually splintered the edge of it off (and earned myself a few cuts in the process). But back then I was single and lived alone, so it didn't seem like much. Now the most I do is the occasional "oh man!" or "yes!" because that takes much less explaining.

I confess: I sometimes stuff my mouth with bubble gum while playing a game out.

This is emberassing but true: Sometimes when I am not playing my solo league and am away from my computer I will daydream a Sportcenter interview with my manager or GM or even players. They will discuss my teams chances on the upcoming season or talk about offseason moves. Imaginary interviews with imaginary players in an imaginary league!!

I sim everything in my current league, but when my team is in the championship series I at least watch those games get played out. On the last play that wins the title for my team, which over dozens of seasons has happened more than a couple times , I like to jump up so that I am in the air when the conclusion to the play-by-play noting that my team has won comes up on the screen.

The PbP is on super-fast but not instant speed, so I am not hovering like a hummingbird or anything.

I just bang my fist on the desk. That usually happens when:

A. I hit the "pitch around" button and see a 3-0 or 3-1 count pop up, knowing what's going to be posted on the PBP seconds later.

B. Having one of my batters make out swinging 3-0 because I was mistakenly thought a walk was coming.

C. Having my outfielder thrown home on a base hit when I have a lead, thus allowing the guy who hit it to reach second.

I don't have any rituals per se. I usually like to have a drink handy, but I do that for no real reason, so I guess that's something weird.

I do have anticipation when something big in the league is going on. Like right now, I'm about to start a new season. I always kind of stall because I'm never really sure if I'm ready for it or not. I get that way right before Opening Day and right before the playoffs and especially the World Series.

Sometimes I'll get pissed after a bad loss and I won't play at all for a few days. But that's about as strange as it gets.

I dont actually have a ball and glove, but i routinely yet somehow randomly pretend im one of my pitchers throwing a 95 MPH fastball. I also do the interview thing, and always commentate on the games, sometimes even pretend im the manager and try to give my team a pep talk in the dugout.

I don't really have any odd rituals or anything. I just squeeze in OOTP time between the million other things I have to do in a day and don't have a chance to get too emotional about it. Maybe that's why my leagues rarely last longer than a few days.

Before we had the Visit the Mound option, I always imagined that clicking on the pitcher and examining his card was the equivalent of, at least, sending a pitching coach out to talk with him. One of numerous neurotic minutia, the practice continues today. There are times, when the performance steps up afterwards, I even believe it made a difference.

And this "hover is the air like a hummingbird" concept is compelling in an odd way.

I drink beer and end up loaded quite often. But that seems to be my ritual with a lot of things.
