Nutmeg State Fighters
My whole Connecticut thread was lost in the meltdown. I am not going to re-create it but wanted to mention that our home-town boy Matt Remillard scored another quick KO on Friday night.
He is back from working with Prentice Byrd and Sparring with Pacman in LA. He is 6(5)-0-0 and still hitting like a mule. He should fight once, perhaps twice more this year.

What does Pacman think or Remillard? Is this guy a prospect or someone marginal?

I haven't seen anything from Manny's mouth about Remillard, here is an article from our local paper about his trip to LA. And one from Ringsid Report
He is certainly a prospect, but prospects are a dime-a-dozen so we shall see. Christopher

The stiff that Matt faced Friday night was about ten pounds heavier than him. He got his hands a little low in the first and took a shot to the chin that buckled his legs and got him in some trouble. Remillard shook it off and dropped Rubin to win the round. He dropped Ruben in the second with a hook and stopped it with some hard body shots and another blow to the head.
Ruben apparently had an awkward style that gave Matt quite a test along with the weight difference. He is nineteen, so there is plenty of time. I hope that he isn't rushed to another level even though he isn't having too much trouble with the opponents that he is getting at this point.

I saw that card at Mohegan. Any 19-year old who can knock down guys with body shots (at least two of his five opponents so far) is going to have a chance to get something done.
Plus, Jackie Kallen doesn't get invloves with stiffs. |

I saw him fight on August 5th and had never heard of him even though he is from my hometown. He was the second fight of the night but electrified the crowd with his power - every one took notice. He was easily the most impressive guy on a card that included Clay-Bey, Bryant and Delvin Rodriguez.

Here is the local article from Remillard's last bout. He was scheduled to fight again Thanksgiving weekend but the note about it has been pulled from Boxrec and nothing is mentioned at Jackie Kallen's site so I am not sure what is next for him.

Remillard (6-0) Wins By KO
Harding Wins NABF TitleOctober 22, 2005 By SHAWN COURCHESNE, Courant Staff Writer <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=storydetail vAlign=top>MONTVILLE -- Paul Cichon couldn't believe what he was seeing as Matt Remillard's legs wobbled. "My heart dropped," said Cichon, Remillard's trainer. "That was my worst fear." <TABLE style="CLEAR: left; MARGIN-TOP: 0px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e6e4e1" width="10%" align=right><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle>ADVERTISEMENT</TD></TR><TR><TD align=middle><!-- Ad Space: html.ng/tag=std&site=courant&color=none&edition=newspaper& content=sports&channel=main&area=none&adtype=cube& adsize=300x250 --><!-- img ad style --><!-- /Ad Space: html.ng/tag=std&site=courant&color=none&edition=newspaper& content=sports&channel=main&area=none&adtype=cube& adsize=300x250 --></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>And it was a fear that festered in the mind of the young fighter since he turned pro in April. "It was always in the back of my mind," Remillard said. "`What if I got hit? What would happen if I got hit?' Today I learned. I can take it and come back from it." Remillard took a pop the likes of which he hadn't yet felt as a pro and rallied from it, knocking out Alexis Rubin in the second round of a scheduled four-round lightweight fight Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena. In the main event, East Hartford's Eric Harding (23-3-1, 7 KOs) won a unanimous 12-round decision over Daniel Judah (20-1-3, 10 KOs) for the vacant NABF light heavyweight title. Remillard, 19, of Manchester, improved to 6-0 with five knockouts. Equally important, he walked away knowing a little more about his makeup. Rubin (0-4) came out swinging wildly. "I was really expecting him to be just kind of like that, a little bit wild," Remillard said. "It's hard to look good against a guy that's wild. But I felt good. When he saw that he got me a little busy, that probably stepped up his confidence and that's when he came out swinging." A three-punch combo concluding with a straight left to the head floored Rubin 1:14 into the fight. But Rubin got right up and kept sending shots at Remillard. Two minutes into the first round, a wild roundhouse right caught Remillard in the head, staggering him into the ropes. "I'd say it was the hardest [punch] I've taken in the pro game," Remillard said. "But I trained for that. I trained for a war. I trained to get hit like that. "I'm kind of glad I took that shot because I wasn't used to it. With the [amateur] headgear on it's totally different. With the 12-ounce gloves on it's different. With the 8-ounce gloves you can't afford to have your hands down. I was shaken. I wouldn't say I was hurt though. I came right back." Remillard came out aggressively in the second round and was quickly in total control. Midway through the round, Remillard caught Rubin with a right that dropped him to a knee. Rubin got up and Remillard pounced, flooring Rubin again with a left-right combo 2:14 into the round. Rubin got to his feet but referee John Callas stopped the fight at 2:32. "In a way I'm glad he got hit," Cichon said. "It says a lot for Matt. It says a lot for his heart. It says a lot for his conditioning and his will to win. Some other kids may have just folded."

Thunder, are you from CT? Perhaps we can hook up over the winter and see Remillard fight at one of the casinos.

The Courant today reported Matt was fighting Nov. 23 in Chicago, opponent TBA, but that may be the bout you referred to which may or not be off.

It looks like Remillard finally has another bout scheduled. February 12 in Providence.
This is more of a lay off than he was supposed to have had.

Just got tickets to see this one!! Some other fella named Manfredo is meeting up with another fella by the name of Pemberton. Thankfully, we won't have to sit through that thing before Remillard comes on.

Peter Manfredo Jr. vs. Scott Pemberton is a fairly attractive fight.

I am looking forward to this, I was caught off guard the first time I saw him. He was in the second bout after a dreary first fight with HW Larry Lineberger who made up for his lack of a good jab by clinching non-stop. By the time Remillard came on my wife and I were chatting and it wasn't until a minute or so into the first round that I noticed how talented he is. Then it was over in the second. No falling asleep at the switch this time - I can't wait.

You got it! Hahaha. I'm looking forward to it as well. Nothing like a night at the fights.

Still no stated opponent for Remillard. Im-a-gittin' noivous.
(By the way, thanks for the article Will - I put in a call and got the "someone will get back to you" line. we shall see.)
